I just put my engine all back together and fired it up and shredded the accessory belt. Everything seemed to go back together right so I'm not sure what's going on. Could it be that I didn't get the harmonic dampener on all the way and how can I tell if it isn't? We torqued it to spec which I think is 48 ft lbs - is that right? Thanks for any help.

Your underdrive pully is not lined up good thats why .

make sure that your crank sprocket pulley as well as your crank pulley itself is on correctly (all the way and aligned). Do this, eyeball the alignment of your powersteering pulley and your accessory pulley on the crank and see if it looks off. That's most likely the problem. Happened to me and others.

I would also check belt tension, make sure it’s not over tightened.
Is it a performance udp(like afx or unorthodox) or is it the stock one? I know when I first came to this forum I was shredding belts like crazy because my unorthodox udp was only meant for a 4 rib belt and I was using a 5 rib belt. It’s been running good ever since I put the 4 grove belt on. If you have the stock udp get the gatorback belts or dayco belts – after you get your alignment on the pulley’s fixed.

Thanks for the replies. After looking at it closer I also noticed my alternator belt is riding up on the inside lip of the crank pulley. Looks like the harmonic balancer isn't on all the way because it doesn't line up. Will check it out tonight.
