114237, High Idle

Well, still trying to get my 95 back on the road and am now having a problem with high idle. After starting it up it idles right (at about 1000 rpm) but it will creep up a little and if I hit the throttle it will go up to about 3k and stay there. I have looked all over for vacuum leaks but haven't found it. Also have checked the throttle and it closes properly and is adjusted right. The CEL was on before but is now off. Any ideas on where to focus? Anybody have this before? - I have been searching but haven't found much in the way of resolution.

may want to look into the IAC. It sounds like the root of the problem is with the idle and when you push the gas you just adding fuel to the fire. So that is where i would start. have you recently sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle body?

Also look into the tps, when they start to go bad they do all kinds of krazy shit. Checking the map sensor wouldn't hurt either, AND extra extra check the vac lines for leakage...

Ok, I traced this down to a problem with the egr solenoid so in an effort to save $$ I took it all out and blocked off the hole in the intake and also the head, also blocked off the line in the intake with a stopper. Now it doesn't surge anymore, actually it doesn't even idle at all now, just dies if you let off the gas - guess I got rid of the vacuum leak. What am I missing here, is my IAC not working? Shouldn't it still idle with the egr blocked off?

Yes, the idle would be unaffected by the EGR missing.

Id check your IAC. It may be stuck in a closed position and its choking the motor out.

How do I tell if the iac is bad? Is the plunger supposed to move when pushing it in by hand because it doesn't move at all. I also hooked it back up while it was detached and started the car and it still didn't move.

Well taking the IAC out and trying to start wont help anything... Other than a 3k idle.

IIRC it should be 53ohms resistance on the IAC... but double check the wiki and a Haynes manual for the values.

Also, have you check your air filter and piping? Sounds simple but you never know what may have gotten shoved in there.
