I'm having a problem with my power steering system. Every time I shut my engine off power steering fluid spews out from the reservoir(both when it's capped and when it's uncapped). No other leaks found. My PS pump is less than a year old. The only thing I think it might be is the pressure switch, anyone know anything about this?

Satan doesn't sell the pressure switch, you have to buy the whole pump - $400 & no auto part stores carry it. Don't you love DSM's?

Not sure about your issue, but if you need a pressure sensor switch you could probably get one used. I dont know if its even replaceable.

Id double check your fluid level, but the pressure switch may very well be the culprit.

But, an Advance pump is probably a good bit cheaper, or a used one :thumbsup

The pressure switch is only used for ECU feedback to correct the idle.

If it's spewing fluid, it's probably overfilled, or you need a new PS res cap.

I replaced the cap but I had to get a used one.

This all started because my power steering pump was whining and my fluid was low. I can't add any fluid without it spewing out when I try to bleed it.

I'm lost.

You don't bleed the PS.

What?......Since when? I've done it before per the haynes manual repair procedures. I found a small leak on the return line, fixxed that and it's still whining. I'm wondering if the res/cap flange is not sealing properly.

If you had no cap on your PS resovoir, would fluid overflow when you shut the engine off?

It shouldnt spit fluid out when its shut off...

Normally if its whining and everything checks out then your pump is getting ready to check out.

Where is it "spewing" fluid from reservoir cap, below, etc...? And, if you don't fix your sig (I.E. to less than half a page) I'm going to castrate you.

It must be the pump and I'm overfilling it. I can't think of anything else. It's spewing from the cap.

Bring old back...............I'm having the exact same problem. Brand new overhaul and the power steering is the only problem. I drove the car around for 45 min turning left and right to get the air bubbles out of the resievor and same issue. squeaks hardcore and there is barely any power steering in the steering wheel.

Start by checking the belt tension and the free play on the pump and other accessories. If the belt is too tight it can jack up the bearings and prevent the pump from pumping. Too loose and it might just be slipping on the pulley. Check the pulley play too, it should have a little resistance from the fluid but be completely smooth. If it even has the slightest grind then the pump bearings are shot and it'll need replaced.
