113401, planning on going 2.4 what to do with internals Posted by redeclipset, Apr-21-04 05:42 PM
I'm looking at going with the 2.4 but i was wondering if it would be possible to bore it out and get everything like the 2.2 from fty. I mean would it be possible to have around a 2.6 liter. Money isn't that big of an issue and either is getting another transmission to handle all the power and everything. If im going to upgrade my engine i might as well get the best possible engine i can get into my ride. I'm looking for the BEST internals and everything possible to make this whole thing work. I'm planning on getting the TEC3 for engine management so i really don't need to worry about anything electronically not working Sorry if this seems like a noob question but im still learning about the whole engine internals and how i can make improvments.

srt-4 internals will handle whatever you want. unless you're moving toward 500hp+ then the srt internals should do just fine.

Can you get the SRT-4 internals in overbore sizes? I haven't checked into it yet...
|
113404, RE: planning on going 2.4 what to do with internals Posted by BlueMoonEclipse, Apr-18-04 07:10 PM
NO overbore for srt internals so far at least...
So if you do overbore you need aftermarket pistons
advantages of srt-4 internals...super cheap to come by..
Disadvantage..you need a cleaner low milage block to work with..and you have about a 500 whp limit (ok 500 whp is a lot but ...its there)
I dont think this is too advanced though..should be in the General forum IMHO might be wrong though

113405, RE: planning on going 2.4 what to do with internals Posted by redeclipset, Apr-19-04 03:58 AM
I really don't want anything less then the best for my car. So hopefully i reach that 500hp range. My car is not a daily driver and im only planning on street/track racing. But money isn't that big of an issue right now to me. I have other cars to drive and i can't even legally drive until july so my eclipse has just been in my garage for the past 9 months. I'm just finishing putting on my custom turbo kit and now just need that 2.4 or i guess 2.5 :)
So what i was wondering is what pistons and rods would be the best to use? Also what compression should i use?

113406, RE: planning on going 2.4 what to do with internals Posted by turbo8u, Apr-19-04 08:40 PM
well ok heres some of my input, this is what im doing anyway....550whp is the goal. i was thinking .060 but its not really worth it. 1 psi would more than make up for it. and if you think about the cost of some custom .060 overbore cp's or something? NOT cheap :P i know you know. so im just goin standard or even .020 overbore JE's or CP's, and then with this part-time job at carillo i'll get a nice ass cryo on them ;) NOT the stock srt pistons, but yea...the stock srt rods. stock srt-4 upper ring lands are only 4mm, as opposed to most forged 8mm. i dunno about if they'd be able to handle 550-600hp, and be reliable... about the srt rods though..forged, cracked cap. some people dont seem to like the cracked cap, but who cares...they work right? i mean, they are one forged peice...and the jagged fault makes for a perfect tight seal to stay perfectly connected, and the SRT rod bolts were even specifically designed to be thicker, and stronger. so the stock srt-4 rods are awesome, imo. for some cracked cap forged stockers, they do the job. they'll take it like a bitch. re-bush the rods, good to go. also, been working out some rod ratio crap to bring it to 1.58 instead of 1.5 = higher redline capable. but that also means custom rods, and pistons. just tryin to kill that ghey ramp the stock srt pistons have, and bring it to the top of the deck and keep it at TDC for a little longer. but its not really worth it, just other food for thought. i wonder if somewent went FULL RACE friggin 2.4, i mean...fully built head, valvetrain, agg cams, huge turbo, 2.4-2.5L whatever, how much actual POWER it could make, 800? damn, thatd be sick :) lol.
anyway yea, cliff notes:
im going CP pistons on stock srt-4 rods, 550whp. _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

I'm sure you came up with all this info by yourself ;-)

Free Cryo, shit you're a lucky bastard

With Cryo, ya 550WHP on SRT internals would be reliable and retainable

I agree, cracked caps are in dispute but until someone busts them beyond their already proven 7.5K rev I'm going with them as well

Fuck that it's ghey, the 2.4L has enough TQ, shit the 2L has enough TQ turbo'd. all that is needed is for enough engine to spool a decent size tubo whic the 2.4L can do. Shit Skylines are only 2.6L and look at the shit they do

true no overbore on stock SRT4 internals, look for aftermarket for that

i think im going to get the .60 over cp pistons and I really don't want stock srt-4 rods. I would much rather have aftermarket rods. What rod choices are there.

two things:
1.) custom CP's = EXPENSIVE 2.) pauter rods = dank, carillo rods are dank but have to be made custom, um...crowers obviously.
the stock srt rods are forged crack cap with 9mm rod bolts, they'll handle whatever you want and arent as expensive as some pauters or something along those lines
whats your power goals anyway?

well, i don't really have a power goal. I'm planning on spending about 10 grand on engine and engine management if that means anything. If i need more cash that won't be a problem. Right now i just finished a t3/t4 custom turbo kit. But i cannot even drive my car until mid july at the earliest. I was just planning on getting everything i need for this and putting everything in in july and tuning and everything. This is only going to be a weekend car and i am not going to daily drive it. I just have to be able to drive it on the street for street races and to the track.
Also by the cp pistons being expensive how much do you think they'll run?

dude, 10K?!?! i could have a 9-10 sec 2gnt for that much :) you dont need all that though. if i were you i'd just get a block out of a 98 stratus or something like that, SRT-4 rods (just because they're OEM does NOT mean they're crap, they are dank ass rods) and get some JE pistons from howell. it'll handle anything you throw at it but if you dont have a power goal, why waste all this money? even at 300whp you'll CRY how fast your car feels dude. its a game of traction with the 2.4L, especially built and boosted. and for the money you'd save, get some rear sways, sick ass 4 pot brakes or something, fat intercooler, your choice of fuel management, injectors, hell...even build the head while you're at it. 10K, omg..thats seriously way to much to mod a 2gnt imo :P

well im looking to run around 10 flat :). I would love to be the fastest 2gnt. I'm not sure what hp range i'll be, i just don't want to be set at something like 700hp and not be anywhere close. i'm planning on running a tec3 for engine and fuel management. Also 200 shot of nitrous. I already have a sfmu and a fat intercooler but am thinking about getting a water to air intercooler as well. I'm still looking into what tranny to use and possibly all wheel drive next year.
The only reason I say 10K is b/c i was thinking about getting a 350Z but i figured that spending all this cash on my eclipse would be better }(. I'm definately going to go .60 over cp pistons and im considering the srt-4 rods.

10 flat? lol. dude, thats going to take a lot more work than you think. all wheel drive :wary, cant do that. well, no one has yet...but caravan swap is possible, lol. 2gnt jeep 4wd or something :P and yea, the srt-4 rods will need to be re-bushed in order to work with the cp's you're getting. if i were you though i would just get the JE's off howells site, they can be used on stock rods and will take anything you throw at em, consider that vs the cost of custom cp's (trust me when you find out you'll gasp) lol

Well the all-wheel drive just seems like a fun winter project. I thought someone on here did an all-wheel drive avenger so i figure that an all wheel 2gnt would be easier. A lot of parts i could get off the gsx and fabricate them.
Yeah i know 10 flat is going to be hard to get but hahn got 10.86 on the 2.0 so i might be able to make it. i figured by the end of the summer i should be making somewhere in the 10's.
I'm going to find out how much those custom cp's are going to cost sometime today.

My guess is that it's gonna take longer than one winter and I do fabrication, but I'd love to see it feasibly happen, but I don't see spending countless hours and time on a ridiculous wet dream, RWD would be a better idea IMO

No he is apart of ASOG and he performed a FULL GSX transfer
Originally posted by redeclipset ...A lot of parts i could get off the gsx and fabricate them. ...
I'd definitely say skip this, the tranny attaches to the block o the other side meaning the engine would have to be spun 180*, the EVO assembly would be a better idea, you'd have a little engine repositioning but it's afar better solution, you would also need a bellhousing adapter plate to attach the EVO housing to the 420a

It's good to see the enthusiasm, but by this summer don't will happen

well about the gsx parts i was thinking about using the axels and everything. I don't think it's going to happen but i might try it out.
Somewhere south of 700??? so you think it'll be under 700? i saw that the 2.4 je pistons from howell are 500 so i figured that the custom cp's would be around $1000. This project's not going to cost me as much as i thought. It seems that the engine with a built head would cost around $4500, what do you think?

I'm serious, you should skip the GSX shit since the bellhousing bolts up from the wrong side

I don't think it will be anymore than JE will charge so custom CP should be 550-700

so what compression should i get. I was thinking about 8.6 but im not too sure. I plan to run high boost and want to be able to tune this beast fairly easily.
|
113424, RE: planning on going 2.4 what to do with internals Posted by turbo8u, Apr-22-04 06:07 AM
im actually leaning toward fairly high comp, 9.X:1, maybe even somewhere in the 10's but im not sure. high comp turbo is just sick though. at lower boost you'll make more power. with all the shit im spraying in there detonation and sub-par timing advance at wot wont worry me at all.
i'll figure that out when i go to buy my cp's
cryo coating them too ;) already talked to the guy about it. its like spacecraft coating and it lasts forever :) dank. high boost. _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

thanks. what type of injectors do you plan on using? From reading that ebay ad that was posted here, that guy with the t66 bb turbo and 870cc injectors and dfi 6 ; which i have one lying around too, wonder if its better to go that route (was thinking 720 or 850cc), or this 8 injector setup alot of people are using. Howell recommends the latter but want to see some other opinions...
