11328, side motor mount bracket Posted by domr, Jan-04-02 10:33 AM I'm changing my timing belt now. I need to remove the side motor mount bracket. There are 2 bolts left holding it on that I can't remove. I have read you can drill holes into the frame to remove them. That doesn't sound like a good idea too me. Is there any other way to remove those bolts? Thanks. | |

11330, RE: side motor mount bracket Posted by XtremeRS, Jan-04-02 03:42 PM Yeah you can get off the motor mount bracket without drilling, but let me tell you its a BITCH!!!!!!! I had to break off the front half of the timing belt cover to get more play in the bracket, you can at least loosen up the 2 remaining bolts, and you just have to work with it, and keep moving it around to you can get it free. I came up with the idea to drill holes that line up with the bolts to get them out, in my write up, but havent tried that route yet.. You could prob get away with a half inch diam hole, but its up to you. I don't think you can get off the motor mount bracket without having the timing belt cover on at the same time. When i did mine, there was no way in hell it was coming off, so i just broke it off, and didn't put it back on since lots of peeps don't use it anyway. Makes it easier to check condition of belt and compoents anyway! Good luck man, after you get that damn thing off, its cake from there! That was deffinately the hardest part of the install! oh yeah, keep the motor raised up as much as it can go, it will help. | |

When unbolting the camshaft gears, can I just leave the timing belt on and hold the crankshaft bolt in place so I can turn the camshaft bolts? That would make sure the cam gears didn't rotate. The manual says to take off the belt before removing the camshaft bolts. Thanks. By the way, I ended up jacking the engine way up and got one of the bolts on the engine mount bracket off, and got the other one off by cutting the timing belt cover in two places. It looks like when I put it back on, the bracket will just hold the cover together. | |
