I found this thing at my work hiding under some boxes. Has anyone ever played with one? I'm experenced in C++ and BASIC, so the language will probably be a cakewalk for me.

I brought it home and hooked it up to my computer and downloaded some sample code to it. Seems to work pretty well. I thought for a while about what I could use it for, and the most pratical car-related thing that came to mind was an electronic boost controller. It can generate a PWM signal which I have already measured with my Fluke 50 MHz scope.

If this is possible, it would be cool to write my own boost controller code. The only thing I'd need to do would be to get a FET to provide a high current supply for a solenoid. I'd also have to make some type of chamber that gets pressurized by an air compressor or something and then has a wastegate on it to simulate a turbo spooling up - I would definately NOT want to run an early prototype on my car ;)

So, does it seem like this project has any hope of getting off the ground?

We are currently using them in our computer controlls class.

As far as we know, we are the only ones capable of using it to run engines. (on Stamp I to boot).

I hope thats not the case, but only 3 teams were FI. Those 3 teams were the winners lol.



We won the super mialage comp using it, got in the area of 1600MPG. Fist in US, second in the world. Canucks took that one, We have suspect they cheated though...

IT is a really neat proc. for 30 bucks, you cant beat it. You wouldnt happen to have a second one? I would be more then happy to help. Ill buy it off you, since the one I use I borrow from the univ.

I have a Fox11 board (with 68HC11 micro controller) and I was actually thinking about doing something like this with it (Till the fucker burned out grrrr). Hell, I wouldn't be too surprised if our stock ECU had a 6811 in it :thumbsup hehe

I was curious if you could use one of these to make a datalogger for an N/E car.

It'd be it's own stand alone thing that would connect to a tach (MSD distributor or from the 6AL tach wire), a single wire o2 sensor (maybe a wideband, but don't think I'll go that far with it), and possibly an EGT gauge.

When activated (powered up, maybe some sort of 'start' button), I'd want it to keep a log of all the readings, like a regular datalogger chart I guess. On the chart, all I would need displayed are time, o2 voltage (maybe EGT as well), and engin RPM, and then be able to pull the data file off with my laptop or PocketPC via a serial port.

The reason I'm asking is because we dyno tuned my car and got the A/F ratio just right, but that's at a stand still. When we first put it on there, it was running way rich, but felt good on the track.

With the hood scoop, I want to know if the 100 mph wind is causing it to lean out. After dyno tuning it, it felt like it was kinda falling down on the big end, so we went up one step on the jets and the car picked up. I don't want a gauge because that means I've gotta be looking at it instead of the track, but I have no idea what's going on. I want to be able to go back and look over the readings at certain RPM ranges in each gear (which is why I want the time and RPM logged so I can see launch, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear).

I know nothing of how to do this or anything, so I'm curious if there are any people on here that would know more or less what's needed and the difficulty level of it.

you want to use a stamp as a datalogger? Im sure it can pick up the rpm puses , but its internal clock insnt that accurate to start with. Also the other inputs would be a prob, well atleast from what I know. I know some of the EE in here can answer you better. I say IF it us possible, thats a lot of hours of circuit design and then programming.

I don't know anything of the stamp, I was just curious about making one in general. I don't know what to use or anything.

I talked to my brother about it, he's the one who said to use an ADC and connect it to a serial port on a laptop. I just don't know what all's involved, or what the logger actually listens for. I know the signal from the o2 is voltage and typically less than 1 volt, but I'm not sure how to pick up the RPM. It's just pulses, am I correct? With that, I imagine I could use a formula to calculate the PPM (pulses per minute) and then calculate that into the RPM and display it as RPM.

Besides, wouldn't it be cool to see my laptop hooked up to a carbureted 69 cougar?

I just have no way of knowing unless I hook up a gauge, but I don't want to be worried about that while I'm running down the track.
