not sure if this really belongs in the advanced section or not, im just putting it here because this is where most of the 2.4l discussions take place. these are probably pretty basic questions but i am unsure of the ansnwer to them. first off, in skrilla's write-up on the 2.4l swap, he stated that a one point increase in the compression ratio will provide your engine with a 4% HP return as a general rule while still low enough to continue using 87octane. would i be correct to assume that if i got my hands on a 2.4l block and bored it .20 over, i would still be able to use 87 gas? second, i know most people who put the 2.4l in their 2gnt boost it as well but i was thinking of installing an nx kit instead since this car is my daily driver and that would allow me to run 87 normally and just put in some 93 if i planned on taking the car to a track. my question regarding that is this; how high of a shot could be run safely on a 2.4l block? i know people have done 100 and even 150 shots on rebuilt 2.0l 2gnt blocks so i would think that it would be possible to do that as well and maybe with better results. dont hesitate to correct me if i am wrong.

edit--the nitrous setup would be a direct port.

It would depend on your pistons & if you can retard your timing to prevent detonation.

On a stock motor & stock ignition timing, my guess is around a 75 shot because you still may have detonation.

Forged pistons & being able to pull timing, and the ability to tune & read the plugs properly, 200+ maybe :shrug

alrite, thats what i was thinking. now to see if i can find some forged pistons for a 2.4l block.

arent srt4 pistosn low comp? i thought nitrous did better with higher comp pistons.

wiseco has 10.5:1 and 12.5:1 piston for 2.4 engine
and eagle has 2.4 rods

A local guy I know told me low compression is best for nitrous. I told him I had 8.8:1 and that it was all forged and he said to ditch the turbo and run nitrous... "thats a nitrous motor" he said. He runs about 600hp worth of nitrous... His car is set up for the 1/8 and he ran a 9.X @ 92 mph in the 1/4 (he let off after the 1/8 and even braked a good deal) Anyway thats with an old camaro but in conclusion based on what he said you'd want low compression to run the most nitrous... (all based on that convo with him, no research by me was made)

The reason he said low comp is good is because he is running so much nitrous. NO2 increases cylinder pressures kinda like a turbo does. For his application though, a slightly higher compression would be good. My cousin runs over 500 HP on nitrous, and pulls in the 7's in the 1/4, has been doing it since the 80's. He said he used to have like 15:1, but the motor would only last for one run. now he has 11:1, and when he hits nitrous is geos to an estimated 13:1. When running like 150-200 HP, the CR doesnt get raised that much by the nitrous, so putting a higher CR in will just make more power.

The stock SRT4 rods are forged. You can probably get these cheap and then just by whatever aftermarket pistons you want as the aftermarket pistons made for the 2.4 are made for the stock rods.
