Alright all you air flow, theory based brainics, here's my dilemma/idea. I was thinking about making an intake (not manifold, just intake) with a velocity stack opening. Used them previously in NA cars. Helped "line" the air up and generate velocity. My current mock-up (made of plastic pipes) is using 3" tubing with (1) 90* bend (at the throttle body) and (1) 22.5* (at the entrance in the front air dam of the car. To get air directly at the front of the car). I'd take a pic but I can't find the wife's camera.

The velocity stack goes from 5 1/2" to 3 " (both ID's). It's about
2 1/2" deep. The tubing is 3" all the way to the throttle body (which is 60mm - what ever that is in inches). The overall length is 44".

Ideally I wanted to step this down from 8" to 5" then from 5" to 3" then to throttle body.

OK, my questions are about the size of the diameter and the overall length of the pipe. I think the diameter is too small and the length is too long. But I have nothing concrete to base that on other than I don't think it rationally works (for high RPM application).

Anybody got any info/direction/opinions on this?

Not sure, MB.

Why not feed the TB from a NACA atop the "power bulge?" The relative low pressure area at the peak of the bulge should offer a good supply of fast, smooth air to the duct, which would then feed the TB via short route piping.

PS - I "helped" with your intake manifold last night. }(

I think I just got a boner :P

I gotta call Mike. Really needs to be done by wednesday-ish to have it installed and tuned for the Shoot Out. I hope she's lookin' good.

As for the hump cut out. I did consider this option. A few reasons that I did not use it. One is that I want to be sure that the front of the velocity stack gets a full "face-on" into the oncoming air. With the hump, part of the face would be blocked off. That's why I want to use the "smile" part of the front dam. Full frontal :thumbsup . I could also move it up higher into the dam (keeping in mind that I only have a half radiator - for this reason), but I want to be sure of the length.

Another reason is that I'm happy with my air flow in the engine bay using the "Home Depot" registers cut-out in my hood (though I do want a little bigger louvers). I like the direction of the air flow over the engine and out through the "registers". I'm a little concerned that the hole in the hump may redirect that air flow.

A third reason is that I want that front hood area to be as unobstructed (air-flow wise) as possible. That's why I did the low profile louvers on my Home Depot cut out. The velocity stack would obviously be a big obstruction (read turbulence).

But again, my big concern is the length. It just seems too long for my common sense to agree to.

I have the AEM V2 and I like it. If you could design something like it you may have something on your hands because the V2 is too much money. I think you should just run one to the front bumper and cut a hole in it. As long as you have good air velocity I don't think you would have a problem, esp. if you get a new SWEET im.
