Last Friday my accessories belt broke. I had no A/C or power steering. I had it replaced at pep boys and everything was fine until this saturday when half of the belt shredded. I took it back to pep boys and the guy told me that the pulley is probably warped. So i am driving on half an accessories belt. I had the pulley put on (at pep boys)about 9 months ago and I have never had a problem (except the squeeking) until now. I hope this is a random thing. I know a lot of you have recently installed them. Lets just hope it is only mine that is messed up. Tomorrow I am calling howell automotive to see if they can send me another one or give me some advice. I would really hate to put that ugly, big, heavy stock pulley back on. I just hope I don't have to pay another $160 for a new one.

I may have a problem with my pulley also. It may have been put on wrong or something. But after 2k miles I kept hearing this shaking noise, like metal shaking around where my pulleys are at. I havent had time to have it checked out yet, but this was almost 7k miles ago. But I do remember Howell saying that the pulley was not recommended for highway use....which is what I have been using my car for mostly.

That highway use thing is just a disclaimer that they put on there. Stores do the same for the xenon hiper white bulbs and just about any other mod for your car. Its just to cover their ass. Do you think anyone buys the pulleys for only "off road" use. I don't think so. I just hope my problem gets resolved. I'll let you guys know how everything goes!!!!!

If I were you I would ask Pep Boys how they did the install... if they used a blow torch to heat the pulley, the uneven extreme heat could have warped it. Also possible they installed it cockeyes. (I have no idea how to spell that)

Yeah, that did suck about the belt on Friday. See if they can tighten it with an impact wrench.....that's what Brien and I used. We couldn't get it to seat all the way on until we used the impact wrench....just be careful with it! Hope you get it fixed. Later.....

Well I called Gary up and ..........I asked him for the real belt number. Pep boys had to try a bunch of different belts before they got one to fit. So I am going to out the new belt on and see what happens. If it breaks again I am taking the pulley off. Gary said he would take care of it if it really is warped. Like always Gary and His company live up to their great service.

wussap, since we are talking about the pulley, I'd like to know if anyone noticed their car being slower after installing the pulley?? I dont know what went wrong but after I changed my timing belt and changed the pulley to the AFX, and changed from the stock 14 in steel rim to the 16, my car ran from 16.1 to 16.7. I'm suspecting my pulley arent installed all the way in because I did'nt have the impact gun...

Reason for being slower now is the rim size change. The larger the Wheel, the more it has to turn. So it is actually just the wheels. if the pulley was installed incorrectly you'd know it ;) Its unfortunate what we change for looks may also slow us down, thats why i really dont ever plan on getting rims any bigger the 16's unless i find a great deal on some 17's.

something else must've happened. rims will only slow you down slightly unless you go from stock 14s to 20" momo that way 38 lbs. and the pulley should offset that anyway

Direct from TSW on close out. Eventually I'll get to take some pics... Damn rain. And then the trick will be scannign them in and putting them up for all to see.

I weighed my wheels with me on a bathroon scale so nothign accurate, but they only weighed like 16lbs. I don't notice too much off a loss in power. For me it's worth it for the way I take corners now.

Yep, it's the wheels. I went from the stock 14"
to polished 17" wheels (ugly too, what was I
thinking?) and it slowed my car down tremendously.

I recently switched from those shit-mongers to
17" Enkei RF-1's, whcih weight like 17lbs a peice,
so I dropped some weight. I noticed a difference
over the 25lbs wheels before.

Anyway, bottom line is the bigger the wheel the
slower you go, and it's not just the weight that
matters, the size is a killer.

On race day, go back to your stock 14" wheels. =)

I see.....so how much did your car slowed down after the wheels?? I know bigger and heavier rims and tires will slow your car down but a .6 sec difference?? I dont know but that sounded kinda extreme. Well, at least my car can handle turns and not like I paid alotta money for it....traded my friend for it for my rockford amp and a 12in polk momo sub. Only drawback was I had to change one tire because it was the only balded tire.
