111616, Is 200hp possible w/ our N/A Posted by hustler, Jul-04-01 11:53 AM
Hi all, I am not new to the board but this is the first time I decided to post.
I was about to be turbo'd by August but greed got to me at Atlantic City and ate a chunk out of my cash flow. Dealer greets me with Happy 4th of July, all I could say was same to you but nothing is happy about losing $1280. :-X Oh well, I am the only one to blame.
To get to the point, I was wondering if our cars can get to the 200hp line without a turbo? Eventually I will get turbo, but I hunger for power right now. If possible, it would be great if you guys can name the brand of the parts and it's function.
My friend got himeself a '98 Prelude, 200hp stock. He just added a HKS Dragger exhuast to each side and a AEM CAI. I just want to be able to keep up with him for now. I know the Stage II kit should be able to walk over him, but that is later on. I am hoping for some kind of fix for now.
I want to get rid of my modded CRX 'Reative' intake and get a CAI made for an Eclipse. What are the best branded ones out there, AEM?
The exhaust I recently got from a friend was for free. It will do for now. It's brand new out of the box, Greddy SP. After the Turbo Kit Stage II, I will probably just put it on Ebay for sale along with any other parts the turbo kits make obsolete.
So basically, I need information on any other products available to give me some HP gain besides the intake and exhaust combination. It would be great if you guys can list the parts, brand, est. HP gain, and part number so I don't go and order the wrong parts. I haven't bought new spark plugs or wires since I purchased my 97 RS last year. Should I change these now? What brand and part numbers will help. Thanks. Most appreciated!

anythings possible if you have the funds, but your gonna spend alot more tryin to hit 200hp na then just goin turbo. figure 200 cai, 500 good exh, 400 to 500 fot a good header, 350 to 400 for a little bigger injectors, 160 afx udp, 300 bigger tb, then the cost of port work on head and intake. the best bang for the buck is the afx udp with between 11 & 14 hp. i'd say buy the stage one turbo. ask dave fl he'll tell ya.

Yeah, I plan on going NA and seeing what she can do, but it's not going to be cheap. I wouldn't go and buy stuff you can't use when you go turbo. So I would stick with your current intake. If you want some power you can use now that will help when you are turbo. Definately go with the AFX Underdrive Pulley. A 55mm Throttle Body, port and polish the intake manifold. Slap that exhaust on and start saving.

I see it this way...the problem with our cars being relatively Not fast (meaning most of us NA's cant break 15.9) is not because of the 420's power output but it is our WEIGHT. our cars are hundreds of pounds heaver than these hondas out here. NA is a good way to go, i however think you should go on a SERIOUS diet even if you consider making some good et's. Some one on this board who is NA should do some serious research on the benefits of stripping down the body weight maybe develop a CARBON FIBER HATCH with some of that plastic glass. I think we all know that the HP to weight ratio is in my book by far the most important factor one has to consider...........thats why you have s2000s(240hp) beating up on (350hp) Crustangs....... so i say this lets start posting more weight loss ideals in the interior and exterior section....

LAST EDITED ON 05-Jul-01 AT 01:33 PM (PST)As far as weight reduction goes, when I put on my new body kit, I am going to go ahead and put on a carbon fiber hood. That should shave a little weight. I have an RS with GSX leather seats right now. I think when I remove those for Sparco racing seats and removing the rear passenger seats, that should do some help.
Alright, let's see. So far, I should get a AFX UDP and install the catback exhaust I have on hand. Will a AEM cam gear add any HP?
BTW. Where's the cheapest place that sell the AFX UDP?

111621, STRIPPED OUT THE INTERIOR. . . . Posted by Fast420A, Jul-06-01 11:43 AM
I took out everything from the front seats back. Subs, spare tire, jack, rear seats, carpet. That night I went up against a GS with pretty much the same mods as I had at the time. I had 2 people in my car and he had himself. I beat him off the line by about 1/2 a car in first, by 2nd I was about 1 car on him, by 3rd I had about 2 cars on him. I didn't notice too much difference in that so it would take a LOT of weight reduction to make it worth it. I would love to have my car down to around 2000-2200 lbs. I want to keep my stereo, A/C so that puts a limit on what I can remove. I posted about this a few months back and someone posted up a link to some Fiberglass parts for the 2g. Rear Hatch, Hood, Front Bumper etc. The power to weight ratio is best proven by this video. http://www.vapor-trail.net/Video/StreetRacing/NAhatchVSTurbo18Si.mpeg
This is a NA hatch that weighs close to 2000lbs with a GSR engine in it against a SI with a turbo kit. And everyone knows how much trouble the SI's can be in low mod form but just imagine with a turbo on it, then watch the hatch!!

if you want a light car you shouldn't of bought and eclipse/talon, there's a price you pay for beauty. Just add power and you'll be fast with class, which is one of the dsm moto's :) think of how much you spend on a body kit, hood, lighter rims...

It is possible to have an Eclipse and be light. Just look at Pure Rage, I think that his goal is 2000lbs for his project car, which I would love to see pics of. Also look at the Buscher 2g Talon, that car looks light as hell!!

Nothing compares to being turboed. With out boost it is very hard to raise the hp level. If you want to go faster for a small amount of money get a 60 shot of NOS. I think you can find a NOS system for around $500. Not bad for 60 extra ponies.

And about the main question, My goal for my car is to have an All Motor, High COmpression 8200 rpm Beast putting out 200 hp! And then I am going to squeeze 100 shot of NOS on top of that!!! Can you say 300 HP!!! That is gonna kick ass!!

How high a compression are you looking to go? Personaly something about high compression and lots of nitrous always Equaled blown motor, isn't that right? I say someone has to push the N/A envalope for DSM's. I just want to know who has the balls to go out their and do it? I do agree with Fast420A about the power to weight ratio. Where did you say I could buy more weight loss parts from? Do they have a web site?

LAST EDITED ON 07-Jul-01 AT 02:32 PM (PST)I am looking to go with between a 12.5:1 or 12:1 compression, strong thick rods, I want it bored either.020 or .040 over (not sure which one yet) and having a milled head and NOS cams. I plan on rebuilding the whole motor, having and MSD DIS2 ignition with retarded timing, Walbro fuel pump and an inline fuel pump before giving it the full 100 shot. The 420A is a good engine but the rods are a little small and that would be the only weak link I see in a hi comp nos motor. The person that has the most knowledge on the Hi Compression 420A is Skrilla. Maybe he can shed a little light on the subject.
By the way, here's the link

111628, High compression... Posted by Skrilla, Jul-08-01 11:01 AM
...I can safely see at 13:1 on the street with 92octane, timing retardation and drag camshafts then just let it fly when you hit the track. Bigger injectors aren't needed unless you are doing what Fast420 is doing which is with nos, this will bring down fuel pressure and allow you to run a little more safe. I run 440cc's from Greg W. leaned at 52% across the board. For NA and the subject of Rods, I would say just get the eagles, certainly stronger than stock and more than capable of 300HP repeatedly. Without changing redline I'd say 180HP at the wheels is capable which equals a 225-230HP motor. You will also need the CAI, headers, Exhaust(3" and it will hurt your low revs), cam gears and fuel controller along with some angle grinds headwork and manifold porting. My Hotshot headers are ported matched for exhaust gas velocity and intake manny with increased oxygen, low end torque and no HP drop off high up. I think I'm in the 180HP(crank) range as GS-T's have a hard time messin' with me any more, and they just aren't competition, at all, around corners and that's no matter what they have in their suspension.

Yeah Skrilla is NA God. And your suspension is... special :-)
I would like to add that CNNP Racing says the Eagle rods can handle up to 450hp... So any N/A project would be wise to use these rods when building the bottom end.

Alright, so I've decided I am going to order the HRC Stage II Kit w/ new FMIC upgrade on Thursday or Friday. While I wait for the kit to arrive, I will be sending my car off to a place in NY to do the body work. Also in the mean time, I will start off with adding the AEM cam gear and AFX UDP. Where can I get the AFX UDP at the best price online? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Individual Throttle Bodies. This is what alot of the pros ue on all motor cars. Yeah, turbo or NOS is the cheapest way to gain power.
