111540, Do underdrive pulleys really provide any HP improvement? Posted by bebe1405, Jan-29-02 07:55 AM
dave-fl told me that underdrive pulleys help out alot, but somebody at a local shop told me it's not worth it unless you rebuild the whole tranny. Help me out as I planned on buying one, but now im confused.

what in the world do underdrive pulleys have to do with the tranny?

UDP's make real horsepower in the fact that they are not making you engine wark any harder to create the power. All they do is reduce the amount of power that is taken from the motor to run other things besides the drive wheels. They have nothing to do with the transmision.

An underdrive pulley has absolutely nothing to do with your tranny.
Your mechanic is an idiot.

Get the underdrive pulley from www.howellautomotive.com . It is the best one out there for the $$$. Have it installed when you get your timing belt done. It is a bitch to install it yourself.

hey what belt seems to go out first, the power steering?how hard is it to replace it?

Power steering :7 . Well i was just laughing cause i forgot to lock down the lock bolt for the powersteering belt the other day and had a terrible crunching sound come from engine bay. My pulleys shredded the hell out of my Psteering belt. At first i was like, " O Sh*T ". But after reading Vegasdsmr's write up on the udp install it was all cool.
Replacing the powersteering belt isn't as hard as one would think. It's just loosening two bolts and slipping the belt into place. But read Vegasdsmr's write up on his site.
