What year or years Neon's has our tranny in it???

Is it going to be the exact same thing or is there differences that I will have to fix to get it to fit?

I think one of the gear ratios are different. Also, the bellhousing needs to be swapped to ours to make it fit.

what ^^^ said. but the gear ratio usually is different by sohc and dohc. check out neons.org for exact info.

Let us know when you find out for sure which one it is.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! Seriously though... let's make sure i understand this. Say i have two cars, identical in every way EXCEPT for the final drive ratio. one with 3.55 and one with 3.94. Which one would have a theoretical higher top speed?

Ok I picked up a '99 SOHC neon tranny w/ only 20k on it for 400.00. I didn't want to buy one but it seemed to be the cheapest and easiest fix for my problem. (I hope)

As stated in the above replies the bell housing is a little different and can't be used. Aside from that everything is basically the same. It was cheaper to go get a neon tranny and swap the bell housing than to just go get on of a 2gnt-saved about 300.00. The cheapest price at the junk yards for a 2gnt was like 700.00 vs 395.00 for the neons. Whod a thunk it...

The higher the ratio number the less top end you'll have, and run higher rpms at all speeds. If your looking for higher speeds and not running crazy rpms at highway speeds go for the lowest ratio #.

Hey Justone, Make sure the shifter pieces are the same as your Eclipse tranny. You may need to cut off a counter weight on it so the motor mount will go on. I had to with mine.

That was the first thing I did when I got it home.

Does anyone have a good method or tool they use to get bearings off?

I got my Neon tranny that I used for my 99 RS for $200.......

If anyone is in PA or near it I can get a bunch more neon trannys for $200 a piece........ ;-)

As the other guys have said...
The bellhousing is different.......
Counter weight will prob need cut off...

Other than that its the same thang.... NVT-350 core.... used on quite a few diff cars........
