...so i've decided that i'm either gonna get the regular old howell bottom end kit and take out my block, give it to a machine shop and have them install all of the goodies, or get a crate engine from howell and just hook up everything myself. i'm gonna need a new headgasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, and maybe a new turbo downpipe gasket. the thing i need to know, is what special tools do i really need to take my current engine apart and put a new block in?

Ok, off the top of my head, ghetto tools: :+

Tool to remove crankshaft/UDP pulley: 5-ton 3-jaw pulley puller. Rent at Autozone, no substitutions, grip pulley from the inside.

Tool to remove crankshaft/timingbelt sprocket: 3-bolt gear puller. I couldn't find one ANYWHERE so I bought a 2-bolt steering wheel puller, and got a big chunk of metal to straddle half of the puller. The bolts you'll need to rig this are (three) M6 x 1.0 x 70-90mm hex-head.

Tool to mount sprocket/pulleys: Bigass socket. 1 1/2" or so, and rubber mallet

Tool to install mail seal: Use an AF/X UDP if you have one handy. It's not quite big enough, but if you strike it at a couple different angles it'll mount perfectly flush. Now that I think about it the stock crank pulley might have worked too.

Tool to install oilpump seal: 2x4 and rubber mallet.

Tool to keep the camshafts from turning: Use thick wire and tie them together. Single conductor copper works good.

And of course, a 0-55lb torque wrench, a 0-10lb torque wrench, metric and deepwell sockets, a 1 1/16" deep-well sensor socket, and probably an impact wrench at some point. You'll need a few different kinds of lubes and glues too eventually. Oh, and an engine hoist (rent it) and engine stand (buy/borrow if possible).

I'm sure I missed some stuff, but all the MB3209302985 tools in the manual are impossible to find, dealers dont even carry them.
