111383, how high compression pistons works Posted by jsupetran, Jan-02-03 01:35 PM
well anyone knows how they work? ----long, boring, yet informative information is greatly needed.
faster_gs says that it is a 4% gain for every point? is that true.
so lets say i am making 120hp at the wheels. how much hp at the wheels with 10:1? how much hp at the wheels with 11:5? how much hp at the wheels with 12:5?
finally is it a bolt on type of deal. not a literal bolt like an intake but once my engine is bored at .20', i drop the high compression pistons in, and instant 4% gain in hp. right?
final final question: 91 octane, 12:1 or 11:5 pistons and that's all. how likely is detonation.

Well the way I understand it - our engines differ approximately 4% for each point. Yes, once you bolt them in you get the power.
so lets say you are making 120hp at the wheels - with the stock 9.6:1CR pistons. how much hp at the wheels with 10:1? ~122hp (120*1.02 half a point increase) how much hp at the wheels with 11:5? ~130hp (120*1.04*1.04 two point increase) how much hp at the wheels with 12:5? ~135hp (120*1.04*1.04*1.04 three point increase)

It says in your sig that you have an HRC stage 1. Keep in mind that depending on how much boost you want to run you are limited to a low compresion piston. Sure it's possible to have high compression turbo, but you have to have MAJOR fuel tuning.

unless u go bigger with the discplacemtn as in boring or storokign or swapping high compression is not going to help u at all in the seat of pants o meter for your 2 grand
if u swap ina 2.4 and went high compression big cams ignition control and all the bolt ons witha ported head ud have a nice power gain but toerh then that id rebuild your bottom end with lo compression and use your HRC kit, just upgrade the fmu to a vortech

Here is THE thread to read about high compression and turbo.. From Mr. Gary Howell himself:

^^^^ EXACTLY. Read the truth from the man himself that builds race 420A's.
