I installed the pulley and I've noticed that its not aligned all that well with the alternator. No wonder I kept on losing a rib from my alternator and accessory belt, the poophead that installed the pulley didn't put it in far enough. anyway I was wonderinf if my pulley is far enough?



only half my index finger fits in there now, I gunned it for like an hour and thats as far as it wants to go, it looks like it should go in more though cuz the alternator still isn't lined up, the alternator is crooked though so I'm gonna put some washer on it and stuff also, but I just wanna make sure all belts line up. I tried heating it up and I don't think I heated it up long enough it went in like half way and I'm all oh damn its not going in all the way then bam too late it shrunk so I just gunned it in. O_0

If it's not in line then turn it on more.

I thred screws into the bolt holes in the pulley an dwedge a screw driver against the frame rail to hold the pulley still. Then I can turn the crank bolt to pull the pulley on farther. As I go I will occassionally warp a belt around the just to check alignment to make sure it's good to go.

Yeah, you probably need to get it on there a little bit further. I can only get a fingernail behind the pulley.

merlin- you can also have a spare 2gntR step on da brakes when your attempting to get the pulley on all the way....

i do think it can go on about 1/4"-1/2" more tho...

I am going to tighten mine up aslwell this saturday. I keep losing the PS/AC belt and I have changed the tensioner bearing already. I( have a feeling mine isnt tight enough. Isnt there a torque spec its supposed to be set at like 105lbs i think?

well as you can see the engine is not on the car its on an engine stand, I used an impact gun to get it that far. ok so I have to get it far enough were I can just fit my fingernail coo thanx :) looks like its time to borrow my uncles super impact gun, man I'm afraid the thread on the crank will strip or something though O_0 can't have that.... yeah torque spec is 105 ft/lbs :thumbsup

I have noticed that the AFX pulley's back section(the backside hub that fits over the crank) is a tad bit longer than the stock pulley. This means that it will push back the timing belt gear sliglty when the AFX pulley is fully on the crank. The easiest way to check if its all the way on, is to take out the crank bolt, then look inside the hole. You should be able to see the end of the crank resting against the back of the AFX pulley. It can be decieving though, because the hole in the crank is taperd slightly. Just look carefully at the edges of the hole, and you can tell if its all the way agaisnt the end of the crank. And as info, DONT hammer down on the crank bolt!!! They can snap if torqued too much by an impact wrench. (dont ask, just trust me on this one)

This is why I do it with a breaker bar, I get a better feel to resistance and force required. Less likely to break somethign that way.

Check for alignment of the accessory mounting brackets. I have found a few bent ones over the years that will cause belt misalighnment.

Here at the shop we us a paper clip bent to insert in the bolt hole to see if we can get between the end of the crank and the bottom of the bore on the pulley. IF you can get the clip in it, then it is not back all the way.

Very good tip for alignment, This will have to go to the things seen before section.
