111235, EGR sensor?
Posted by Ruben Lopez, Feb-14-03 11:00 AM
I had to replace a burnt egr sensor on my 98 eclipse gs. Can i use a 97 neon sensor? it looks exactly the same but it has a different part number on it. Any help would be appretiated

Im was thinking about taking the whole egr off but i was told since i have a turbo kit it was not a good idea due to detonation

Do it.

I've been running EGR-less for years. No problems here. Most of the turbo guys here block them off, just to save headaches on melting wiring harnesses on the hot pipe.

Block it off. It might marginally increase you chance of detonation at part throttle (when EGR operates), but I wouldn't worry. If your timing and fuel are OK, I think our engines are very detonation resistant (as in they resist the temptation to detonate).

Fix the problem, get the right solenoid and your all set.

These guys always say to remove it, but then you fail emissions without it, have increased cylinder temps,etc... And yes the neon one should work just fine if your talking about the solenoin with the electrical connection on it..

I don't see blocking it off as a bad thing at all - if Mopar sells the blockoff plates, apparently the factory doesn't see it as a bad thing, either.

If anything, you'd get several advantages - one being COOLER intake temps - no recycled, dirty, HOT gas in your intake. No more melting the wiring harness near the pipe. No more having to worry about the EGR funking up your nice, newly ported and polished intake manifold, head, or valves. No more worrying about blowing the solinoid off and melting it.

I don't even get a CEL for it.. but 95's are cool like that.

I wish I didn't get a CEL for it. Now I will never know if something else fucks up LOL

95's don't get any CEL's from it?

It depends. Mine doesn't.

All i did was leave the actuator connected to the harness and a vacuum source, and the port on the other end of the solinoid open.

When the ECU checks EGR activity, it closes the idle air valve and opens the EGR, expecting to get enough recirculated exhaust gas to maintain idle. Since it has opened the EGR solinoid, it creates a vacuum leak through the solinoid and pulls air in back through (instead if it sending a vacuum signal to open the valve, which i removed) and it's fine. it gets enough air to idle through the check, because it created a vacuum leak when it activated the solinoid.

I've never gotten an EGR related CEL, unless the actuator was unplugged from either the harness or its vacuum source.

so you basically leave everything connected, but block it off using the plate?

is there a VFAQ for properly removing/blocking?
