I know Michael put a resistor in place of his EGR and hasn't gotten a code. Anyone know what size resistor would be required to eliminate the code?

I put a 150 ohm resistor in place of the EGR sensor and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!

its supposed to be a 1.2K 10watt resistor, yes 10 watt thats what comes with egr blockoff kits.

nevermind. it came back. I'm still messin with it to try to get rid of it. I'll keep you guys posted.

just get some vac caps and cap the egr off... unless you already tore it apart. and if your really cheap like me, cut the rubber hose and stuff two bolts in the ends.

I already removed it and capped it off. I just want to find a way to get rid of the CEL. I'd like to keep that light for more useful information than just that dumb EGR code.

Update-I tried putting in a variable resistor and it didn't seem to work. I tied a 1k resistor last night and it was gone for a little while but came back agian. The 150 ohm resistor made the code go away a bit longer. I'm going to try installing the EGR actuator (not the actual valve, I'm talking about the plastic thing) and try fooling that sucker into thinking it's still attached and working.

I'm on a mission now :P

which code are you getting, the one for egr system failure or the insufficient egr flow, the first you can get rid of with a 1.2K ohm 10 watt resistor, the flow code you cant get rid of without a relay that energizes with the egr solenoid and intorduces a resistor inline with the o2 sensor to lower its output voltage only when hte solenoid is activated But I dont know the value for that, probably just a little one like the 330 ohm or less

You will never be able to rid the "insufficient flow" EGR code. The ECU performs a test on the EGR system, usually at cold startup, on occasion. What happens is the ECU closes off the Idle Air control vlave. Then it tires to open up the EGR vlave to compensate for the lost air from the IAC. If the EGR isnt working(blocked off), then the motor will stumble a bit, then trip the CEL code. Unless you have a way to introduce air, and the correct amount of air, into the motor when the EGR test is performed, then there is NO way to get rid of that CEL. Dont waste your time with resistors. Now, you can use a resistor to fool the ECU to think that the actual EGR solenoid is there. But i just leave my solenoid connected for that. Its small enough anyway to leave in there..

not to sound like a noob but how exactly can I FIX the insufficient flow problem? I don't want to just block the CEL, I want to take care of the problem.

Fix the egr system, thats the only way, find out what is bad (solenoid,valve,clogged vacuum line, etc..) replace it and then your flow code will go away.
