111029, THIS IS A SERIOUS POST regarding 6g72

Ok, i have a friend. his grandfather has a son who had a 3000gt motor. it was a turbo. Bluntly, will it fit? i'll probably need a new transmission etc, but what does it all include? those trannies are awd right? maybe there is just a fwd or rwd transmision that will fit into my car. But anyhow, this guy might give it to me for free! it was just rebuilt, has pulleys on it too. he wants to get rid of it really bad and if he sells it its only 300 bucks. so i'm really wanting to know soon!

Dude that 3kgt twin turbo motor is a heavy, worthless piece of shit. It would not be worth the effort to even put it in your car. Have a nice day. I cannot possibly fathom how big of a pain in the ass that would be. :nono

First off yes the 6g72 is a heavy son of a bitch but so is the 3000gt, they weigh not much more than a fully loaded gs like mine but yet, they seem to run low to mid 13's. And the swap would be a bitch in which i would not want to preform not matter how good it was too much hassle. But yet 6g72 motored cars are a worthless piece of shit? If you buy a NT 3000gt, you can do a factory turbo swap with just the manifolds, injectors, fuel pump, turbos, a fuel controller, and a couple other tidbits, you cant do that on our cars with our turbo twins. The 3000gts arent the worthless piece of shits, take a look again....not trying to be a ass, but no one who owns a gs/rs or esi can even touch a vr4 or R/T TT 6g72 car, let alone a turbo dsm, not unless you of course have dumped about $3,500 into your car, and thats IF its a 5spd, rather that be a turbo kit and some upgrades or an all motor build that 3000gt is a bad ass ride.

I think what everyone is getting at is it is going to be a bitch to put that engine in (not sure if it will even fit right in), get new tranny, I am also guessing new ecu/harness??? Lets not forget also the labor to do the engine swap, tranny install... Probably cheaper to get a Stage II from Hahn/Star with better realiability and results. Just my .02

Having both cars at my disposal ... I'm going to have to say no. The 6g72tt is a monstrous motor. I have people come to my house and take a look at both cars w/ the hoods up next to each other. Then they see my spare 6g72tt motor in my garage and say "hey, you should rebuild that big motor and put it in the eclipse". All the complications that would arise allow me to say no .. not possible under normal circumstances. Given a long period of time and a lot of custom parts and $$$, then yes its possible. But imo, you should take the motor then sell the parts off of it. The tiny 9b turbos off of it are $300 alone for the pair. Can probaly get like $300 for the cams/heads. Then you're makin money. It depends on how much time you have and how much you enjoy takin shit apart :)

The 6g72tt is indeed a monster motor. I'm pretty sure our engine bay isn't even big enough to house the engine, unless you take out the fenders! It would be a very bad ass swap though.

doesnt the 6g72 in the 3kgt sit like a 4g63? tranny on the passengers side.
if it sits like the v6 in a/s it shouldnt be any more difficult than a 2.4 swap i would think. and hasnt someone already put a 2.5 in the eclipse? your best bet would be get it and sell it then put that money towards boost, or nitrous, or 2.4/all motor build. but

The engine faces the opposite direction in the 3000GT motors. It faces the same way that the 4G63 (older) ones do.

That means new motor mounts, and custom everything.

It would be easier to swap in the A/S 6G73, and put a 3.5L bottom end :thumbsup

yeah custom everything down to a standalone ecu, fully custom interior gauges, you gotta find some stiffer springs to support that fat bastard.

I would never swap a A/S 2.5 V6 in my Venge NEVER. you know why no 5-speed yet. a stock v6 venge runs about a flat 17.0 (driver doesnt really matter cuz its an auto. A stock 4 cylinder (420A) 5-speed runs about a mid to low. like a 16.4 or 16.3 with a great launch and a great driver. The V6 has more power and more torque but it lacks gearing. Even if you can get a 3.5L in thier and boost it. Its still an Auto plus Its a A604 one of the worst Auto's. I know this from experence. I use to have one. And as of know you cant swap the 5-speed tranny off of any 3.0 or 3.5 because of the Crank Pisition Sensor. Until they figure out a way to get around that with either a new sensor or type of flywheel. I would never touch the V6. Just my 2 cents

thanks for the input. but no i'm not from kentucky. and this kid used to live with me. then he went and lives with this guy he calls his grandpa. but really he's not. and this old guys son owns it. but it turns out the motor is in portland now. and i'm too lazy to go and get it. but who was talkin in another post about takin a 3.5l and strokin it to like 3.8 and stuffin it in there? that would be nice. then slap some boost on there. 3.8l turbo charged car. would awd fit on 'dere too? :-D

i know this is old, but people turbo the SL motor and have TT FWDs. The only thing different between the blocks is the compression. The heads are alos the same. The intake manis are different, but this does not pose a problem. Get two vr4 exhaust manifolds and some stock 9bs, stock IC piping and IC and boost her.
