11089, 02 sensor wiring, fuk.. i did a no no Posted by Super20G, Dec-30-01 03:29 PM
Damnit, I wasnt thinking and when i was hooking up the air/fuel gauge... on the bosch 02 that came with the dfi n' shit, it had 3 wires, red, black, and signal purple... when i wired it to the NTK 4 wire replacement(2 whites, black, grey signal) i wired the positive red to the white cause i figured that was the heater wire so it was power for the heater or sum shit, but no.. i got up and started the car to see if the gauge worked, but it wouldnt turn over, or the started wouldnt enguage, so i got out, smelt a burnin, went over, yanked the power, and the car started right up, but i fried the 02 sensor i figure, and maby flowed power down other circuits as well? i dunno jack out woring for cars really... damn, i make simple things hard, think she's ok? runs fine, all accessories work

I don't know much about wiring either, but I do know that the two whites are the heater wires and one is positive, the other is negative (polarity doesn't matter). I think your mistake was not connecting a negative (ground) to one of the white wires. You should have one power and one ground. However, I'm not sure if you need a constant power for the heater, or does it need a special source that turns it off when the car is warmed up? Hope someone else knows...try to get a warranty replacement for it if possible...

Hey man I know exactly how you feel, but cheer up. The good news is all it really cost you was a o2 sensor and some time.

yeah, well, i got a new 02 overnight and i am running over to a import performance shop on thurday to have him look over and order all the stuff he needs to redo my IC piping and some of the exhaust sections.
Well, i didnt know 1 white was positive and one needed to be grounded... i just took the factory harness, hacked it off, used some crimp caps n' shit and hooked it up the the NTK one, everything was all good, i was getting a reading in the obd-2 software, then i was trying to hook up the air fuel gauge and tapped the wrong damn wires...
