Just curious as to if anyone here uses ProSport gauges or knows anyone who does? I am curious if they are accurate or not. They look very nice and I was thinking of getting a couple of them, but want to make sure they are good first.

I just ordered a couple for myself (oil pressure). I hear that their accuracy is pretty good (but then that was just a search on tooners).

I see a lot of people do use them, so they must be a good company. They peak/warning gauges too.

damn i just looked them up. they are fuckin nice lookin. i just think i might return my autometer boost gauge and get one of the prosport ones. keep us updated on the accuracy bullett;)

Just curious how you guys go about testing the accuracy of your gauges? Have you really compared the coolant temp reading to that of a laser thermo on the radiator? Do you have calibrated pressure/vac sources against which you can compare readings? And, finally, do you think it matters?

I do use the gauge as a comparison from day to day. I treat each gauge as a seperate entity. Because, like dyno numbers, I use the gauges as a comparison to see if it is running different than previously.

And what matters to me is that the gauge is consistant in its readings. So that it would show some sort of anamoly if there was something different/wrong.

I've been called a ricer before for my 5 gauges + 5" tach, but I tune my own car and like to know whats going on at any given moment. They're not just there for looks. Have the right ones and you know exactly what is happening in your motor at all times. Verifying displayed information is as simple as comparing it from day to day and to other sensors in your engine.

Do I think it matters if my gauges are right? Um, yeah. Thats why I have spent a lot of money in the past/present in gauges.

I had an old VDO boost gauge, always read 12psi. Put on a Autometer, and it was reading 15psi. Put my Snap On pressure gauge on, and it was reading 15psi as well. Same thing with an AC Autotechnic water temp gauge I had, it was always read about 20* cooler then what my actual temp was.

I like to know what is going on with my engine and its temp's and what not.

That's what I was looking for. I was concerned about people speaking to the accuracy of different gauges without any sort of calibrated constant against which to confirm. I suspect that, for most people, being a little off here or there isn't as critical as being able to spot anomalies during operation, as Mark pointed out above.

Curious though. Why do you think the VDO gauge was off? Quality? Age? VDO is a storied manufacturer, so could it just be that this gauge had been around the block a few times? Furthermore, how do you know your Snap-On pressure gauge is accurate? Does it ever require calibration? And, going even further, ever thought about getting together a handful of different brands of boost gauges with local buddies and doing a write up for the wiki comparing their accuracy like this?

Just a thought.
