I have searched on several of the DSM websites including this one about my question......

I am having trouble finding the correct part number for Crower Valve Springs for my 420a.

Here is why I'm confused.......

On Crower's website this page (link below)shows there are two different part numbers for valve springs for the Eclipse engines.

The first is for the turbo engine 4g63 and is part number 68190. The second is for our 420a engine and is listed as 68191. This 68191 number is the same that is listed for the PT cuiser....

So I also looked in the 2008 pdf catalog on their website....

In there you will see that the turbo engine is still listed as the 68190 and that also the 420a is listed as 68190 (same number as the turbo), but they list two different sets of stats for the two different engines.

Even on Howellautomotive's website they list the springs as part number 68190.

I recently bought a set of crower valve springs on ebay and I was just double checking that I got the right part number that was listed in the sellers auction. After finding the two different part numbers, I don't know if I got the right springs.

I even called Crower and talked with David Crower who basically told me that there is no such thing as a part number 68191 (even though its on their website) and that the 68190 is the correct number needed for the 420a. I tried to explain where I saw the number in question on his website but he kept repeating that the 68190 was correct (most likely looking in his catalog where I found the error). My opinion is that 68190 can't be the right part number for my 420a because there is a 68191 on their website listed for the 420a.

Does anyone have any insight to my confusion or that have used the 68190 in a 420a engine without any problems. I just don't want to use the wrong springs in my rebuild just to have them fail and cause problems. Thanks Matt

You can use these, the 4G63 ones.

Bullett uses the 4G63 ones, and I will order them for my build!

Cool thanks for the answer. But is there a reason why I can use these also? Are they stronger or better for the 420a? I don't need a technical answer but would just like to know why I can use the turbo valve springs in my 420a.

Well, they are pretty much the same size for one.

My opinion is that these are as strong as the regular 420A ones. And when Bullett was telling me about these, he thinks the stock 4G63 are stronger than our stockers.

Stock to stock comparison.

The Crower's are obviously stronger than stock. I am currently using the Crower's on my NA. No problems.

I am using stock 4g63 springs on my turbo 420a (360whp-ish). I will use them when I put on the Crower 2 cams. At the time I was researching, I was not able to find clamp force or bind info on them for comparison purposes. But I didn't look that hard because, obviously, they have been known to go 400whp on the 4g63 set-up with no problems.

Just my thinking.
