The car is a 98 GS with auto trans.

First, what does this wire do? Its just tied up on the firewall, i have the washer fluid removed right now...it doesn't seem to go anywhere. Any ideas?



Now, the main problem. This group of wires goes back to the back of the engine, the oil pressure and knock sensors i believe. The problem is, its routed incorrectly. It lays on top of the EGR, i can't figure out where its original path was and i don't have a car here to compare it to. Right now it snakes weirdly around the auto trans, then comes up and lays on the EGR. Makes no sense. If someone could help me (ie, "under the this, over the that, between the this and that...") or if someone has a CLEAR picture of where it should go, i'd appreciate it. I've searched for pics, diagrams, whatnot, and have come up empty.







Looking from the front of the engine:

I cannot help you with the second harness, because I cannot get the picture in my head of where it goes, however, the first connector is for the washer fluid pump.

the harness you are concerned with is supposed to have the white alternator 12V+ wires in it only. someone took the sensor subharness and added it into that loom. Every loom there has human error in it.

I didn't follow the harness under the intake manifold, i assumed it went to the sensors back there - but you could be right, it could go over to the alternator. If that's the case, how is it supposed to be routed?

Well, i went and looked at it again...it does have the two alternator wires, along with the sensor wires in it too.

Doesn't anybody just have a picture of that area with their battery tray removed? If i could just see a 98 auto im sure i could figure it out...but there are places where brackets are missing, etc...i know this car is on its second engine, so they probably just routed it incorrectly. My 95 car not only has a completely different harness, but it isn't even wired up right now...

This guy seems to have somewhat of a similar wiring...except that he's a manual trans, and i can't see whats going on under the piping there...

On mine they were just tie-strapped up to the injector/tps/iac/etc harness, where it's held by the clamp bolted to the head. I had a problem a while back when the tie broke, layed on the EGR tube, melted into an ignition + wire, blew the fuse and left me for dead in the middle of an intersection. Luckily a nice cop helped push me into a near-by parking lot... Needless to say i got bigger (and more) zip ties to hold it up. Then i just d/c my EGR anyway, so yeah.

thats correct, the factory 12v+ wires were just zip tied to the other larger harness. Tie it out of the way and you will be fine.

The harness behind the washer fluid reservoir is for the factory alarm which you don't have or it would be plugged into a horn that mounts there.

Those are some great pictures, that helps a lot...my harness is almost the same, but in any case, that route makes perfect sense in my setup...thanks a lot.

Now, if you could just get me one more picture....i need to see the route that it takes down by the transmission...where the right two arrows are pointing in this picture...under the coldair intake or factory intake tube...whatever you have...
