110258, Slo2g's re rebuild
Posted by Slo2g, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Well some of you know I finally got the car boosted and then 1 week before the SO I spun a rod bearings and messed up taking the eclipse to the local SC meet and the SO. Since then I have been saving some cash to rebuild again. The original build was a generic set up 8.8 Wiseco pistons, Eagle H beams for the bottom end. New set up is going in it is 10.5 comp CP pistons, and some H beams as well. Well enough talk, if you have any questions just ask, here are some pics...

PS: Thanks Terry for helping me out with the board!

That sucks, that second picture makes me sick. Good luck on the rebuild though. I like the first pic, 1g and 2g, is there another garage with a 3g and 4g? :)

I don't plan on ever owning a 3g or 4g, I don't consider them "eclipses". Just my opinion though.

I got them from www.raceeng.com Great place, I actually called them and made the order. They are located in Fla so I got my order on Friday and placed it on that Wed afternoon. I highly recommend them. Great prices too!

Well a little update, not a huge one though, I got most of my parts in to start putting this thing back together. CIMotorsports left one set of my bearings out and being a 95 block I need to sets of 96+ sets to get a full groove set(I don't feel like notching the block). I got a Melling high volume oil pump, and a Walbro 255hp inline fuel pump to go inline with my intank Walbro 255hp. Then just bearings. So hopefully before too long it will be back on the road...

Notch the block. I didnt even know I had a 95 block, and thats what I ended up doing.

Meh, I have already paid for the bearings and they are on the way as of today. I've been lazy and haven't done much lately but I need to go ahead and get that fuel pump wired in and sell my nitrous kit.

a little out of turn but may I ask what the 2nd and 3rd photos are off at the beginning of this post? I know the 2nd is the bottom end of the engine with the oil pan off, but specifically what is the pic supposed to show its kinda blurry. Also, what clued you into having spun a bearing?

The second pic is shavings inside his oil pan.

The third pic is his extremely filthy engine bay with the motor taken out!

he couldnt hear the rod knock because of his open DP. he's lucky he caught it before it got worse

Yes, I know my engine bay is not spic and span clean but it has been cleaned up enough for me. I'm not in this for show but then again I don't want a nasty engine bay. That is correct on the spun rod bearing, I couldn't hear it knocking because of the open down pipe and I thought my oil light flickering at idle was from the 4an feed line to the turbo causing some pressure to drop from the oem sender. I luckily caught it before it got too bad and windowed the block but it took out alot of componets. Point being now I am installing a oil pressure gauge so I will know from now on. I have made some progress but still have some small stuff to take care of...

(dome pistons for the win!!!)

Well after finally getting some time to work on it tonight I managed to get the head bolted down with an OEM MLS gasket and some copper gasket spray and get the oil pump bolted up and torqued to spec. I need a water pump gasket and some misc. stuff and it will go all back together....

122545, RE: Another Update
Posted by 420agreenvilleSC, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
i have a WP gasket. By the way, i thought it was a no-no for copper spray gasket on MLS' HG's...
122549, RE: Another Update
Posted by Slo2g, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Some people don't like using copper gasket spray on an MLS because it defeats the purpose of the gasket and links them together. It aids in the transfer of heat to the head, I don't mind, I would rather it seal and not leak. I have used it since the first HG I did a long time ago and it leaked after it too, took it apart replaced it and sprayed it with the spray and no leaks.
