110243, spark plugs and wires?
Posted by adamzty, Oct-12-08 02:25 PM
So my spark plug wires have never been replaced at 120k miles. Should I replace them? They don't look really bad, so I don't know if I should. What brand of spark plug wires do you guys use? Is there any real difference between brands?

Also, for spark plugs I don't know which ones to get - I have heard either the stock bkr6e or 1 range hotter bkr5e. Does it depend on what kind of driving you do for what heat you should use? What would be the best one for me?

I know I am probably just asking stupid questions, but I really don't know this stuff and I want to take care of my car!

Thanks!

even though they may look fine i would replace them as you may have unnoticed micro erosion from all those miles of spark and the gap may not be optimal. same would go for the wires, if they are stock originals then a pair of NGK wires would do some good.
ESPECIALLY if you are having any problems, our first recommendation is usually a new set of plugs and wires, lol :P

yes your idea of the bkr6e is a good starting point. stick with the standard NGK's, don't waste your money on the Iridium or something like Bosch 4+ most people regret them and find that the NGK's are just fine.

if you have standard NA mods, going with a one step hotter plug may allow you to see a better gain.
for NA i use NGK BKR5E-11 gapped to .05 with Magnacore 8mm wires and a Screaming Daemon coil pack.

Ok I will get some wires and plugs. I dont have any NA mods (except short ram intake) so I think I should be good with the stock heat range plugs?

I am not having any problems, but I am looking to prevent any future problems :D

Thanks for the reply!

Yep, I have the ngk wires on my car right now and have never had any problems with them.
