Ok here is the whole situation the other day i drove my car after it just rained and i hit a big puddle and my cold air intake sucked water up into the engine. So i pulled the plugs out drained the engine and it didn't turn over. So i brought it to a shop and they tell me the engine sezed up i need a new on. I wanted to swap it with a 4g63t but from searching i have found that is basicly not an option, so i wanted expert opinions. I really want more power out of my car but it is a daily driver so i want it reliable and i don't want to turbo it because from what i have heard people have problems with those setups and i don't want that. So my 2 options are rebuilding the engine myself or buying a rebuilt one. Like i say i want to try to get more power since it needs a new engine anyway. so What are your suggestions should i rebuild or by new. If i rebuild what can i do to make it faster but keep it reliable. Or if i should buy rebuilt can i get one with more power then the stock 420a. Im also open to anything else you can think of except "BUY A GS-T OR A GSX" i want to keep my car.

First off, you can go turbo and still be reliable. If you rebuild it yourself, you can pick the parts and build it for your wants. If you just need to get back on the road, then buy a used or rebuilt motor.

as for the flooding, check your plugs, relays, and conections for any water intrusion. i couldnt tell from the post if you got new plugs and tried it or reused the old ones? try it with new plugs installed.
also, if your even remotly close for an oil change, do it and check for water in the oil just to make sure no ring dmg or other mysterious "flavorings" to your oil. aslo check your coolant for discoloration. (dont need to drain it completly just check that top and maybe drain a cup out of the bottom)

anyway, if you need it on the road NOW, go buy a rebuilt motor and drop it in. if you dont get the exact year dont worry, they are all interchangable with your old sensors and running gear.

meanwhile, while you are having fun daily driving the car, rebuild that old block with fresh parts for a turbo build. (anybody who sez, "ohhh dont turbo the 420a, it will have problems!" dosent know what they are doing or did somthing half assed)
there are tons of examples of daily driven turbos on here so dont worry, as long as you read AND understand what you are doing you will have a car that is fun and reliable.

Who ever said the 420a wasn’t reliable? Tell that to the people on this forum that’s been running that set up (stock pistons/rods) for years including myself. If you decide to stay stock get yourself a good tune in and don’t get the boost bug and you will be golden. If you decide to go the forge route it will be able to take anything you throw at it. This is 2gnt, why the hell would anyone tell you to buy a gsx/gst

Not really sure but I had the shop tell me the same thing and they were wrong. The best way to see if your engine is siezed is by trying to turn the bolt that goes through your pulley (can't remember the name of that bolt for the life of me right now). Be careful though, because if it is really siezed then that bolt will break but otherwise you will be manually cranking the pistons. Just something i would try.

I would try cranking the motor with the harmonic balancer bolt. If you can get the engine to turn you might be in luck. but do it before the cylinders start to rust from the water. And hey if you dont want that old block and stuff let me know im looking for something to build lol.

Ya that is the bolt I was thinking about.

Find a good used engine and swap that in for the time being. I think someone here was looking to sell a good condition engine and trans for something like $1600 (unwilling to split them up, though). That keeps you on the road while you strip down the dead engine and rebuild it.

For the rebuild, you can stick with stock internals to save money up front for a turbo kit, but then you're limited on ultimate power in the long run. You could keep a spare engine around to build with forged internals for more power down the road, but I would suggest building a nice, simple engine with forged pistons/rods, new bearings, pumps and all that, leaving the head alone for the time being. Then you can make some nice power for a while before getting into headwork.

Just some thoughts.
