109934, NA and AWD

I don't want to go into why I'm wanting to do this, but I'm debating on it. What I'm curious about is if it would be easier to swap a NT motor into the car, bolted to the awd tranny or just swap parts to make it NA on the turbo block. I know it has low compression and would be a bit of a turd, but I plan to put pistons in it. Yes, I'm sure your thinking wtf would someone do this. If things don't go well this weekend, thats what I'm planning to do. Will the stock NT manifold bolt up to the turbo downpipe is the main thing I've came across that may not work out too well

Ive also pondered it, but I dont think you would ever need the traction of AWD on a N/T frame. Especially with how heavy all the driveline and suspension components are.
I would think it would be easier to swap in a N/T 4G, but then you would have problems of all the sensors that would be left unhooked, such as the boost gauge and wastegate solenoid.

Well the thing about that, I would imagine swapping the nt ecu would take care of that. Also, I basically hate front wheel drive. All or rear wheel is the only thing I'd have from now on unless its a honda. I'm just trying to get together a fun all around daily driver that wont have me tempted to lay into the gas all the time. Turbo does that.

Yep, I'm lost. Do you have an AWD turbo car right now that you want to make AWD non turbo?

1G GSX will solve all your issues. getting one for under 2k is fairly common now a days.

destroying a 2Gnt and a 4g63 to try and acomplish what you want WILL NOT BE UNDER 2K!
hell to get this done right and functional under 5K would be interesting.

there are TOO many incompatabilities between the two platforms to make this worthwhile. gross incompatabilities like the transmission alone make it troublesome, let alone completly redoing everything from behind the front seats back inorder to fit the GSX rear. (gas tank is a big one there)

so after all the time and money trying to make a GSX out of a 2gNT you could have turboed your 2gnt and bought a 1g, and have two non-hacked apart cars.

if you want to be non-turbo just take off the wastegate spring off the turbo so it wont build pressure when it spools

Get an AWD A604 from a Chrysler Pacifica. Use a sawzall, plasma cutter, and a tig to make the rest of the driveline fit.

Totally drops right in :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

Oh, it is a 92 tsi. I didn't realize I had posted in the wrong forum. But yeah, as long as the nt manifold would bolt up to the turbo downpipe, i may pull the motor and trade with someone if they want to do it. Plus some boot, but yeah.

No.

You'd want everything between the cat and head from a 4g63 NT for it to fit a turbocar.

How would that work though? All the nt cars are front wheel, no transfer case right in the middle. Also, whats a good compression to run on an n/a motor like that to get a little extra pep out of it? If I do end up doing this, I'm going to rebuild the motor and more than likely have it bored out so I know the cylinder walls are perfect.

bump...im about to buy a 4 bolt rear end to do some crazy shit with this n/a motor

The guy I used to buy all my parts from was building a 91 tsi AWD with a non turbo motor for his 16 year old daughter. It's a super clean shell and it's gonna be a nice ride.

How is the guy running his exhaust? From what point on does he use the factory exhaust is what I need to know if I end up doing this.

Wait...Im not sure Im understanding this here. Are you wanting to make a FWD turbo car > AWD NA? Why not just make an AWD turbo car > N/T? Unless Im reading this wrong, thats what makes the most sence to me.

Its a 92 tsi. awd and turbo now. if i do end up doing this, i'm gonna have a rebuilt motor in it with a little pep added. might make it rear wheel who knows. either way, i just need to know how the exhaust would need to be set up. i may not end up doing this, but its a possibility.

I haven't gotten a reply on this that I'm comfortable with yet. I have a 92 tsi. awd and turbo. I am very seriously considering putting a non turbo ecu, manifold, and other few things on it to make it non turbo. Basically, I bought a truck and want to make this a good daily driver that gets good mpg. What I need to know is will the only exhaust part I need to change be the manifold? Will it bolt up to the awd downpipe that curves up under the motor? I've found a donor car that I can use for this and most likely get it super cheap and scrap what I don't use. Any help would be appreciated. My car also doesn't have the cat on it. Had a free 3 inch set up from the cat back put on.

To make a 92 tsi-awd boostless, the simplest solution would be to disconnect the wastegate. You wont build but maybe a pound or two of boost, if any, and that be WOT in 3rd going uphill.

Or you could install the header and flex section from a 1gNT.

Either way, the car would be dog slow, having a very, very low CR and all. If you must, install the NT bottom end, or swap an entire NT engine in. It'll bolt right up the the transmission.

If all you're looking to do is save fuel, if you stay out of boost, the turbo-car is pretty damn fuel efficient. Just don't mash the pedal on the way back from the grocery store.
