109917, Is it worth it? Posted by EventsCo21XL, Sep-02-08 11:10 PM
Hey there everyone, Well I haven't been on here for awhile to post anything so firstly I wanted to say sorry for that. I just got a free Greddy header from a friend of mine who just moved his shop. He had the header just sitting b/c it didn't sell and decided to give it to me.
Now my question to all of you is, would it be worth my time to install the header or no? I mean there is nothing broken with my current setup now, but its been awhile since I've added anything new to my car. Besides I wanted to see what everyone here would think as opinions are greatly appreciated.
I've read about how it doesn't really do anything but help flow with the exhaust system, but I also wanted to know how the sound would be affected by the header. I'm currently running a AEM short ram with an APEXi N1 exhaust. I just want something that might make the powerband a little smoother while giving the car a little meaner sound. A litte extra power would be nice as well. (Turbo isn't an option since I live in California). I have access to air tools as well as a compressor so that would be no problem. Should I change any of the bolts as well. I've already have PB blaster, as well as RTV silicone for the bolts and O2 sensor threads. Is there anything else I might possible need besides header wrap or copper gasket sealer????
Also I might be able to get a Nitrous kit reletively cheap as well, so I was thinking of adding that as well for fun. I was thinking a 50 shot would be good, but wanted advice about that as well. Is a purge kit necessary as well????
Thank you all in advance for all your advice.

A header is a great buy for the 420a so since you didn't buy it you could either sell it and get some money out of it or put it on, I vote put it on. If you are thinking about nitrous I would def. get the header, and as far as a 50 shot, its fun but its not THAT much of a hit. A 75 shot is a big difference. On my car with a AEM V2 intake, AFX underdrive pulley, 2.5" Tsudo exhaust, Ebay 4-1 header, stock cat I put down around 200 whp with it. Just to give you an idea of whats that puts you at.

Thank you everyone for the advice.
On the nitrous front, the reason why I wanted to do a 50 shot vs a 75 shot is because this car is my DD and I don't want to put too much strain on the motor seeing how my car is stock internally. Plus I'm guessing I would need to replace the injectors as well as go for colder range plugs and upgraded fuel pump. I was planning on doing a major tune up soon anyways.
If you folks think that a 75 shot can be used safely, then I'll go ahead and take your word for it, but I really can't afford any downtime with this car as my CRX is just too loud and uncomfortable to drive around daily LOL. That's why my CRX is the K20 powered wknd car =P
