I have an engine from a wrecker and I'm just about finish the general maintenance on it (gaskets, water pump, alternator, etc). I have no idea how long it was sitting in their yard for but I was told it had about 100,000 km on it and it was in good running condition when it came out. Everything seems to be fine with it but I'm wondering if there's some kind of procedure for cleaning this engine out (IE. cooling system flush, etc) before firing it for the first time.

put all new fluids in it and unplug the fuel relay switch. turn the key let the engine turn for two sec one 3 sec off for a couple of min. this will prim your engine with oil so it will not dry start. plug your relay back in and fire it up. let it run for ten min to check for leaking. if there is stop it and fix it, if not turn it off change all fluids and your good to go. hell since the motor is out save yourself some time and build it up.

Sounds good. I wish I had the time to build it up but fall is here (I'm in Canada) and snow will be on the ground soon. I just want to get this up and running before then.

That doesnt really make any sense. You need the car to be running before the snow hits but you are going to rebuild during the winter???? If thats the case, why not rebuild now while it is out. You apparently have another vehicle if you are planning on winter to rebuild. hmmm

Makes sense to me. Even though it will still be over 100* here in Phoenix for another month or two, I can still appreciate his situation. Suppose he only has room in his garage for one car. He might want to be able to drive the car into his garage when there is snow on the ground, rather than push it. ;)

If you can spend a weekend and have the car able to move under it's own power, you're in pretty good shape. All three of my cars will start and move under their own power right now. My Galant looks like someone put a 4G63 on a forklift, since it's missing pretty much everything in front of the side members, but dammit, I can set the battery on the valve cover, connect it, and start that bitch up to move it when I need to.

thanks man. yea I have an '08 toyota as a DD right now, but I need to get this out of my garage and parked in storage after the first snowfall. I have a spare engine that I will be working on over those cold, cold months -- I'll install it in the spring. This should help me get through winter :)
