109682, Who's hit 345.7whp without a water pump pulley? Posted by bullettdsm, Aug-12-08 05:25 PM
Yeah, worst kept secret is that I went turbo with my silver daily. Just got back from dyno. During a pull a piece came rolling at me from the bottom of my car. Couldn't recognize it at first. Tried to fit it into the little pictures in my head of the parts on the car (looked like a filter for a breather system or something). While this was going on Matt, my tuner was still pulling with my car. Ran at least another 2000rpm (basically a full pull to 7100) before I realized it was the pulley for my water pump! Yeah, somehow it came off and the belt fell onto the shaft that was left behind, lol. Screwed up the timing numbers for the pull, but it doesn't appear (from the graph) that any of my valves touched!! Continued on to 345.7whp.
Just wanted to share the humor. May have it down for the Shoot Out. We'll see how tired I am.

WOW! I think you may have used your luck up for a while there Terry!
you can get it done, you said yourself that it only takes you 45 minutes.

Damn, I gotta get Terry over here to help me out, lol. Better yet, maybe I'll just have him come over the hotel at the Shoot Out to take care of it :thumbsup

haha, damn Mark, nice. Hopefully all is well with the car. So when do we get the full specs/pics/etc. on the car? How much boost were you running? If I remember from what you've already told me, you were using the OBX manifold. Any plans to see what differences AMM's manifold can make on a boosted car?

Corey I'll get your answers when I get around to making a thread in the turbo section. No time until after the SO.
Now the bad news; no compression in the first two cylinders I checked (obviously I did the belt and water pump). I heard that this does not help your car run. I'm thinking of maybe some of that "Stop Leak" or something to seal up the chamber :P
So I'm guessing on shut down the belt must have slipped. Which is actually good news because the force wasn't as bad as if I was into a pull, so those hardy JE's stand a chance.
Water pump didn't seize, the pulley just fell off. No reason, just fell off. The DSM gods just don't want the car running yet. That's OK, we'll get her there. That's racing.
Oh and I blame this all on Driggs. He's the one who wanted me to bring the NA :wavy

Lol, I got 'em. Just haven't downloaded them yet. Like I said, I'll post in the turbo section when I can.
Oh yeah, just so you know Mike, this set-up would go 400whp+. Um that is, if I can keep the pulleys on, lol. This was at 22lbs.

OK, you want pics? Here's a couple;

This is at 15lbs. It shows the nice straight power curve. I likey.
![]() Now this is two into one. The red is a run at 20? that the boost gauge line sprung off and we aborted.
The second one is at 22 but that's with the water pump pulley falling off (I think it rolled out at around 5k. Don't know when it really started to affect the timing curve). As you can see we still got 345.7 out of it and the car still pulled through, lol.

Crap I forgot I was going to give a break down while at the SO. Just too involved with having a great time there (AND crappy wifi) to remember. The 2gnt core that was there was one hell of a great group. Just an assload of fun (hmm, not quite meant that way, but, judging from Dino's phone, he could appreciate, lol).
OK, from mammory;
MSnS Ported and polished head, 1mm oversize SS valves Arps at 95lbs Cometic MLS 10.5 comp JE's PT Cruiser valve train 4G63 springs STOCK cams (haven't decided yet on cams. Stock to start) Eagle rods Lightened UDP (actually didn't weigh it) Neon/T4 turbo/VW clutch set-up ("red" version PP from clutchnet) Modified OBX intake 60mm MP throttle body Mark Peachy shortie exhaust manifold (quicksilver99 on this board) Tial 40mm wastegate "Crushed" 4g63 bov Borg Warner sc366 turbo (85 A/R) Full 3" exhaust 6 X 8 Barrell style water to air intercooler (with very small FMIC) Honda 1/2 "race" radiator
I think that covers the bulk of it (I probably left something out. Oh yeah, a brand new water pump, lol).
Have to redo valves (hopefully that's all) because of decel damage and then I can get her tuned a little closer.

I've been waiting to hear the results! Glad to see the manifold is working for you. congrats on the progress so far, and good luck with the rest. The engine bay looks nice, simple-like a race car.

Thanks Mark, though the results aren't really complete due to the water pump pulley, its a start.
Got lots of nice comments on your exhaust mani. Short and sweet.
Just thought I would post up an update;

No the cams aren't in, lol. Looks like the intake slipped out. But the strong like bull JE's came out with just some marks :thumbsup
I'm going to replace all the valves anyway.

Mark if you interested....I am looking at parting out my Superbee and the valves in the 516 heads are 2.14in 1.81ex stainless. If you want to have a good machine shop fit them, i would consider offers....

This was on your 10.5 comp daily right? How hard was it to tune the 10.5 comp and turbo?

Yup. It was easy for me to tune because I just watched Matt on the dyno (while I fixed the dyno demon problems). I have Matt from Dentsport in Norwood Mass tuning the car. Just because of where I want to go with it. But we weren't even close to the limits. Never had a chance to get there.

August 22nd, call SBR and order replacement valves. Talk to Jeff Bastion. Told they probably have them in stock but if not they will have company drop ship to me. Call back on the 28th wondering the status of my valves. Told by someone else, that they came out of Florida and were shipped to SBR. I should get them now on either Sept 3 or sept 4. "Should have been drop shipped to me" I say. "Nope" he says (that's it then silence). Call back sept 4th and talk to Jeff Bastion again. Had "no idea" I had not got my valves yet (uh huh :twitch). He needs to check with his shipping dept. He's gonna call me right back when he knows. Sept 5th I call him back at 2:30pm. He says he does not know the status yet, he needs to hear from California to see if they were shipped. Me "Um, I was already told they were shipped from florida and at your place on the 28th and being shipped out?" What the FUCK?.......and it went downhill from there.
Not just from this instance, but SBR is falling back to their old ways. Was good for a while, are no longer. Just simply tell me the truth, don't make shit up!! /rant
Anyway, to answer your question, I can't really tell. I need to get the valves so I can put her back together. Then I plan on taking her out a little (was hoping for Mitsu day) on the current tune to get a feel for her (should be in the 375whp area on the current tune). THEN I will make some changes and re-dyno for power and away we go, lol.
