109462, She's ALIVE... AGAIN! Posted by ez, Jul-26-08 11:28 AM
After removing the crank to regrind, installing new rod and main bearings, and putting the block back together, I fired the '95 up for the first time (again) today. Started right up, no oil light, no oil or coolant leaks, no misfiring, just purred. I did have the little clutch piston pin fall out on me because I didn't have it lined up correctly with the clutch fork, so that required bleeding of the clutch line.
First time installing an OEM crank pulley - and yep that's still a bitch even after being in the oven at 550. The AFX is so much easier. I still have to go another 1/2". blah
I hope the DSM gods are with me and I don't get some crazy rod knock at like 20 miles. Though I assembly lubed everything and the crank has been machined and oil pressure is fine, this car has been cursed from the beginning. I'm tired of having two DSMs. Now I have to fix the door handle on the 99.
I :love Corbin's rebuild page

Well she developed a high idle after about 2 miles of driving. So far no leaks, no CELS. Interesting thing, the first time I put the engine in, I had the weird TOB rattle issue (noise when clutch pedal is not pushed.) This time I was meticulous about making sure those two itty bitty tabs fit behind the fork. It still sat on the shaft loose and half-assed looking but that's as good as she would sit. And what do you know, no TOB rattle this time.
She also has a little difficulty on the first turn. The crankshaft was a little more difficult to turn when the new crank was put in, but I plastiguaged it and it seemed to be within specs. I could still turn it by hand, just not as easily as a used motor. I thought this may be because the 420a's I've taken apart were used and hence had a little wear and hence more clearance at the journals.
Well I hope to find out the cause of high idle, why the radio from the 99 won't work in the 95 (stupid anti theft thing I'm sure), and hopefully make it to 20 miles without rod knock...

I just put in the SymTech IM Spacer and started it up the first time and the SOB went up to 3.5K and stayed there, open it back up used high temp sealent and TADA. check the head to IM seal for leaks, that might be it, or maybe you TB wire is alil tight.
haha I left a paper towel in the intake pipe(painting) like a month ago and it got stuck on the TB and the TB wasnt closing all the way. the idle was stuck at like 4K hahaha I was shocked it didnt get sucked in any farther lol
