1. I smell burnt rubber like smell off and on, very random

2. Clutch Pedal is mushy, not like it ever was when I first bought the car

4. Loss of performance, launch, take off, acceleration between gears.

5. I'm pissed cause it's rite after christmas and I don't even have anywhere CLOSE to $600.


Are these the symptoms of a clutch going out? Or is it something else?

CarBoy ( local performance shop ) quoted me $479 for Centerforce Clutch/Flywheel and $250 for labor. Good?

put it in second and try to start from there if it goes then your clutch is good and if it doesnt well sorry for the badnews

when you do the 2nd gear thing, do you just let the clutch in without giving it gas or do you give a little gas?

Kay, I think I know what the problem is.....

For the first time in my life, ever, I opened the clutch resovoir (sp?) near the firewall....


BONE DRY.

Scary thing is? Why is it bone dry? Do I have a leak? And how long have I been driving like this! Jeez. So now I gotta get some clutch fluid PRONTO and hope it don't leak out. How much u wanna bet that grinding sound in my tranny/engine block area has to do with this issue..... ugggggh. Hopefully I get some fluid...have no leaks, and my clutch will become much stiffer now.

Example... I push clutch in halfway and its like air, nothing....halfway down is when you feel the clutch grabbing. It's still perfectly drivable, just really slow and sluggish cause I cant launch very well...

Yep you are grinding gears cause your clutch isn't fully disengaging. There isn't enough fluid to make it happen. Basically its like shifting w/o using your clutch! Damn, i hope your tranny is ok! That resovoir shouldn't be bone dry, so def check for leaks, esp at where the clutch master cylinder meets the firewall, and follow the clutch line down to the tranny, and check out the slave cylinder, its the part that moves back and forth that works the clutch..and be sure to bleed the system when you fill it, to get rid of the air in the lines. This is how i did mine: At the slave cylinder on the tranny, loosen the bleed screw while someone is pushing on the clutch pedal. Before the pedal is all the way down, tighten the screw. Push down on the clutch again, about halfway again, and loosen the screw and tighten before the pedal hits bottom. Just repeat this about a good 5 times, and keep close tabs on the fluid level in the resovoir, cause if it goes dry again, you will take in more air and have to do it all over again! Let us know how it goes..

i suggest using this time to take our ur master clutch cylinder and rebuilding it. flush ur fluid and use good clutch/brake fluid. your fluids should always remain clear... afterwards come and do mine on my RS... it's dirty like fuxor :)

Welp, ur gonna laugh at me when I explain how I fixed this, since I didnt know half of wut I was doing. I took apart everything from the resovoir for the clutch fluid all the way down to the tranny following the lines. Soaked all parts in water and soap, etc., cleaned them, removed any all bolts/screws I could and put everything back togeether. So I think i did the master cylinder and little metal lining thingy connected to the hip bone connected to the thigh bone and so on. :)

The only thing I fakked up was the rubber "nipple" (heh) that goes outside the clutch bleeder screw. Dino said it shouldnt be a problem. As for me bleeding my clutch? Why, I did it myself like a champ. I used a four-way tire iron bar and my small ratchet set toolbox and wedged them all in between the front seat and the clutch to make the clutch go all the way to the floor. I did this several times, and loosened/tightened the bleeder screw each time, as clutch fluid shot straight out a good 6 inches each time, lol. I kept filling more clutch fluid in each time as well.

The end result? That clutch is stiffer than a businessman inside a topless bar at happy hour! Dat bish is HARD! I almost forgot how my clutch used to feel when I first bought her.

Goes to show u....CHECK UR FLUIDS and don't be a dumbass like Kaptain Mike. tia :P

I'm losing fluid mysteriously...

BTW, how do I rebuild the clutch master cylinder? (What parts do I need? I'm in Canada, and I've called everywhere and they don't list a rebuild kit for a clutch master cylinder...)

i dont know if i have a leak or not....prolly just ran out with the life and wear/tear on the car....

As for rebuilding it? I just took it apart and cleaned it real good and put it all back together...
