I have a 98 talon esi and I recently just replaced the motor with a motor that has 76000 miles on it, but it was sitting outside for 1 year, i checked it for any sign of rust, or wear, and it SEEMED perfect, so anyway i put the engine in and crank it to see if my wiring was correct, i only cranked it one time, there wasn't any oil in there, the second time i made sure oil was in there, and it ran terrible, then i re-did the timing, but i took it out of the car, and drained the oil, so i was turning the crank without oil, and i was kinda worried, but i put the engine back it, filled the fluids and now it starts and idles great, with no lost of power, BUT it makes a slight knocking noise at 2500 rpms and only at that rpm,i never let the car run until normal operating tempeture.

I know what a bad bearing sound like cause when i first got the car the engine in it knock really hard, ALL the time. This sound isn't strong and it happens only if i hold it at 2500 rpms, i could rev pasted it and never hear it...so i dont know how easy it is to change rod bearings and maybe i could catch it before it gets worst and damages the crank... because its very light and sound deep, so its i know its not lifter tick. Do you guys think i should let it run to operating tempeture, or just change the bearings?

I need to know how to do it because im getting ready to sell it for 2700 and they really want the car...so if anyone could give me some intructions on how to change the bearings, i would greatly apprieciate it....OH, and i searched, and i didn't come up with a answer substantail (sorry for the misspell) enough to go change the bearings with confidince....

Try searching corbins rebuild page. it doesnt get any simpler than that.

Just be careful with those oil pan bolts. It doesn't take much to snap them if you overtorque.
