109253, I want to stay NA! PLEASE HELP Posted by DSMalex, Jul-06-08 09:58 PM
Ok after months and months of research I have come to the conclusion that I want to stay NA! The point being is basically I just want to stick to my roots. I dont care about waxing the cars on the street or the cars on the track. I want to build the badest NA Motor around. Now I know the 420a is frowned upon for the idea of keeping in all natural. But I was thinking if I did extensive weight reduction, and extensive building to the motor, then eh it should be pretty quick. Right now this is what I have done and I need some opinions on this. Please do not comment bashing me for my idea. I simply want to try it a little bit differently, so if I could recieve any positive help I would greatly appreciate it.
MODS: Stock 420a Block Venom Performance Chip (Does NOTHING DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY) EGR is Blocked off 55mm Throttle Body Venom Intake Manifold 3in Exhaust Headers 4-1 (Frowns in dispair) and some other minor things
What do I need to do now. I have cams on the list for future modding, I have bore, Pistons, Rods, the whole 9 yards. And I have also gutted the entire rear of the car.
Please help a fellow 2GNT mechanic out.
All help is greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!

You could go with a jeep 60mm Tb, and a UDP. You can build yourself a 2.4L n/a or stroke your 2.0L. Look up bulletdsm, he has the fastest n/a on record, I beleive.

Originally posted by DSMalex I want to build the badest NA Motor around. They're fun to drive, let me tell you.
Originally posted by DSMalex extensive weight reduction This will help a lot, but if the car is daily driven, you're going to lose a lot of the creature comforts that make driving it enjoyable.
Originally posted by DSMalex Stock 420a The block isn't as important as the head, but you can pick up more power through increased compression ratio. You can pick up a little compression by milling the head down more, but it's not the best route to take. Additionally, depending on cams and head work, you'll need to wind the engine out to 8000rpm or more, which the stock rotating assembly won't be too happy about.
Originally posted by DSMalex Venom Performance Chip (Does NOTHING DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY) Appreciate the warning, but you should seriously remove that thing. Why risk damage to the ECU or electrical system?
Originally posted by DSMalex EGR is Blocked off Keeps the intake manifold cleaner.
Originally posted by DSMalex 55mm Throttle Body A nice mod, for sure.
Originally posted by DSMalex Venom Intake Manifold Ouch. I think you should ditch this thing. It's designed more for a turbo car, but Bullett has used one on his all motor car before. Don't recall his thoughts on it.
Originally posted by DSMalex 3in Exhaust Too big. 3" means 300hp in my book. Yes, it will flow more at red line, but at the cost of low end, which is what gets you off the line quickly. 2.5" will allow you to pick up more low end torque while providing increased gas velocity in the top end as well.
Originally posted by DSMalex Headers 4-1 (Frowns in dispair) 4-1 is actually ideal for top end. Either way, headers don't do much for these cars. Dig deep enough and you might be able to find a true LTH on here which will give you serious gains.
Originally posted by DSMalex What do I need to do now? Do lots and lots of reading. There's a bunch of threads when I was building for all motor, but Mark has pretty much dominated the scene for the last couple years. Search the perf/eng section for all posts by BullettDSM and you'll get all kinds of crazy ideas.

One last thing I think not mentioned by the guys above, Megasquirt. Of course I'm sure you'll come to this conclusion yourself when/if you start reading up on all of Mark's (bullettdsm) threads

If you want to go anywhere NA, this is your primary.
Shybuck is right on the 60mm
Driggs is right on the rest.
You gotta spend some time reading and researching for a while and then you will have more pointed questions.
Food for thought; when I ran my 97 as a daily driver, I was down to 13.9 in the 1/4. Quick enough to have some fun.

I'd strongly advise you to pick up an extra .4L of displacement and research the 2.4L swap.
