About how much HP do you gain form a CAI? Which is the best? I have been looking at AEM or Iceman intakes, but was wondering what kind of HP gains to expect. They say its the best return on investment, moe HP per dollar, but if a turbo gives you 1HP per $25, and a CAI give more per dollar, wouldnt it be about 10 ponies. Just curious.

In my opinion, and from my direct experience, I'd say the cold air intake improves your 1/4 mile time by about 1/4 of a second, probably more like 3/10ths. That would be about 10-15 hp or so, just a rough number. Although, at 10-15 hp for $180 for a new iceman, that's pretty good, 12-18 dollars a horsepower, I'll take that.

Cool, definately going to get one as soon as I get some extra money. I assume you prefer the Iceman intake? I want to make sure I get the one with the most performance gain. It seems like a good investment. Any other simple mods that I should know about?

on a civic si, a AEM cold air was about 7-10 hp. I remember reading that off a dyno chart in either a car mag or online. Only reason i remember was because I was surprised at how low the numbers were.

If you're talking about the Lude then a CAI should yield 10+ hp. If you mean the Eclipse, I'd say nothing!!! I had GReddy EVO catback and AEM CAI, fast as fuck, removed the intake, still fast as fuck just didn't get the hissing intake noise, literally noticed ABSOLUTELY NO DROP in power, kinda pissed me off, spent $220 on that shit.

hmmm, I had my intake off with just my exhaust for it to go to the dealer when I blew the transmission sensors with the venom 400. I noticed a difference when I put it back on.

Thats what I figured. I hope to get 10-15hp out of the intake on the Lude. Dont have the Eclipse anymore, but you guys know your shit here, and the guys over at the Honda forums think its stupid to upgrade, cause their stock Civic already runs 10's, yea, in the 1/8 mile maybe. I have warranty on the Lude, 2 1/2 years, will mods hurt that? I wouldnt mind running about 40-50 shots of NOS, but if it would void the warranty, then wouldnt do it. I know I can only get so much extra power with simple bolt ons, which would more than satisfy me most of the time, but at the track, 40 shots of NOS couldnt hurt.

intake shouldn't hurt warranty that much.. and you could always keep the stock airbox and put it back on when you take it to the shop... and whistle and play dumb. =P

hey man.. well about the warranty.. just go to the dealer and tell him you want to add some stuff.. sometimes them guys are cool about it.. now with the nitrous you will prob run into probs.. but a intake and exhaust i think he would be cool about. just talk to them.. if not just save the stock parts

the lude ur best bets are aem or iceman..

Well, a good friend of mine dyno'd his '96 Talon ESI and he got 7 whp. I think that's pretty good for about $200. Like everyone else has mentioned, you'll probably see about 10-12 whp on a Honda (who knows, because of higher compression?)

Ok, which is the better CAI, AEM or Iceman? Iceman states that theirs will deliver 50% more hp than their closest competitor, but thats proabably inacurate. Which looks best under the hood? Plus, anyone know if the oversized pulleys and cam gears are a worth while investment? One last thing, would 101 octane fuel be safe on my Lude? Or should I buy some good octane booster.

jeezus... 101 octane??? I wouldn't ever run higher then 92 octane unless I had some serious mods on there, like way high compression or a big ass turbo.

and nitrous will definatlly void the warrenty..
but when it comes to stuff like CAI's.. warrenty is fine unless whatever mod you did is directly responsible for whatever failure you are getting fixed.

The engine in the Lude requires 92 or higher, I wasnt sure how much higher is safe. I figured teh NOS kit would be out of the question, but maybe after the warranty runs out. I still need to know, AEM or Iceman, which is better?

Which is better? Personally, I had the ICEMAN CAI, and I liked it a lot. Performance wise, I think the AEM and the ICEMAN is about the same, although the AEM aluminum piece looks better. Just my .02 cents.

As far as a CAI .. i'd say iceman. I've seen both AEM and iceman intakes, and while both have thier disadvantages as far as my eyes see, the simple fact remains that plastic will conduct heat slower than aluminuim, even coated. The iceman is plastic, weighs less, and while i don't know whether or not is is of this substance, there are plastics available that conduct heat at such drasticly lower levels as to produce dyno apparent HP gains when used as a spacer between the head and intake manifold. (so the head won't conduct heat into the intake manifold) I can't remember the term for the material.. starts with a P. Whatever: It may not be that, but i'd still be willing to bet it conducts less heat into your intake charge than a metal AEM. And it's cheaper. Up to you.
