Tested another idea at the track the other day. Thanks to Mark Peachy (quicksilver99) for his fab work in this project.

Wanted to get the air from the front of my car "lined up" and forced into a velocity stack styled intake. Came up with this idea;



Right now its a rough experiment but I did get positive results.

I started off with having Mark make some progrssive piping for me;




I of course cut the hole in the bumper and then cut down the pipe to fit in;



Then my racing buddy, Mario, welded on a cone (again from Peachy) to the end (I would rather have had a velocity stack, but that would have been much too expensive for experimental work);



Bumper with a plastic trim ring/velocity stack put in hole (the way I wanted to do it):



So ran it at the local drag day. About 4 runs without and about 4 runs with. The results were a definitive 1mph+ more on the traps. Not only that, but absolutely more pull after I crossed the line. Pretty cool results.

Now did I log it? Well.......I intended to, but didn't because, well, sometimes things just don't work out that well at the track. I really wanted to log vac to see if I was getting any positive numbers. Someone I knew did something like this and they actually came up with positive numbers after 100mph. Hmm, a boosted NA, lol? I won't tell you who, I'll let them come on if they want, otherwise we'll just consider it heresay.

Now if I expand on this, I will do a couple of things differently. The pipe at the throat is only 3 3/4" ID and it tapers down to the 2 1/2" throttle body size. I would like that to be more a 5" throat that tapers down. Also, would much rather have a velocity stack than a cone.

So experiment a success and a new addition to car.

Corey, yeah we just missed on a bad track (13.302). It was so bad that I thought I had a bad clutch until I saw the video's.

Kinda putting her aside, I think, to work on that other project (Which I finally found some time to start :9 )

Yeah, if I ever get off this PA project, I'll be able to try this experiment. Should be able to see it soon. I'd share but then I might sound like a Honda owner; just talking about what I'm going to do but never doing it, lol.

Nice results good job I've thought about doing something like that but have the piping facing on the side CAI w/ out the filter.

Have tried doing it this way would the hp results go up abit more or the same.

Dude I like your idea so don't take this the wrong way, Why did you not put it down in the little triangle shaped hole in the front of the bumper so ya did not hafta deface ya car like that? Plus it would have been a degree or two cooler.

I just know I've seen that crome cone in an auto parts house somewhere?

If you could get a shop or yourself to fab up a triangle shaped duct to ram it in and look good too at you would'a had a true sleeper to boot...Just my two cents but who knows maybe I'll try it, I started to but after seeing yours work I'll get to work on mines after I find a way to trace a pattern from the backside.

Extremely low 13.3 times? that'll scare some of the AWD turbo guys.

If I didnt know anybetter I would think that it was a turbo especially with a hole in the front.

No problem, won't hurt my deelings, lol.
Keep in mind that this is now just a race car, so a little hole in the front won't hurt (although, it does leave open the thought that this car has a turbo, lol).

Now as for using the bottom triangle hole, a few things; I'm concerned about the length and amount of bends in the tubing. The length that I'm using now, with very little bend, is as long as I want it to be. Also, in the idea of the triangle vs the cone to flow air through; The cone is more effective (though the velocity stack would be more effective than that).

Now IF you wanted to hide it on a street car, you could put it just below in the "smile" area of the bumper (you would still need to have the 1/2 radiator in there). They also have air filters for velocity stacks.

As for the temps, technically, the temps at the level of where I have the hole are actually slightly (so slightly that it would make no difference) lower than then lower hole (less "road heat")
