109030, no fix head, but make it better
Posted by scorpo86, Jun-19-08 02:07 PM
i have search for so long on help with the head building but i could only find problems, not answers. what is up with the pt cruiser lifters, are they really that better, and are they stock for the the pt. what is the point of buying the adjustalbe cam gears when you cant even adjust them, looks or what? Is it safe to run stage two crower cams without a turbo for a little while. je and eagle rods are in and running but its time to get that head into shape before i put on the grand mama. give me the scoop on everything i need to know on how to make this head better so i can run high but safe psi. (i all ready know about the springs and valves) hook me up, if you have any parts that i could use pm me so i can look into it and might buy. thanks guys.... best cite ever!!!!!

I'd like to know this myself. Yes, they're stock PT cruiser Hydraulic lash adjusters for any year 2.4 PT

Camshaft timing IS adjustable with the cam gears. ignition timing is not unless you're using something like megasquirt. many people use adjustable gears on stock cams for a little better performance and fuel economy

stage 2 turbo grinds or standard stage 2? if it's the turbo ones you'll lose a bit of top end because they don't have the overlap that N/A applications need. you'll get it back when you slap the turbo on.

I answered things that I felt were truly valid and thought out questions and weren't super vague. that last portion I'm not feeding you.

Keep searching. You'll get better at it and you will find answers. There are ginormously long threads on here where I was discussing head building options for my all motor build, so I know they're out there.

They are really better. Ever seen a stock lifter? Could you tell the difference between a regular bullet and a hollow point? That's pretty much what you're looking at when you compare stock to PTC. PTCs provide improved lubricity and cooling in the valvetrain. Very important when increasing lift, duration, or revolutions.

Um, people use them to adjust their cam timing. You need to be on a dyno to get the most from them, but there are plenty of threads here talking about the basics for a good starting point on the street. (And yes, some people just get them for looks, but those people are poseurs and we don't like them.)

Questions. They end with question marks, man. Throw us a bone, eh?

Nothing wrong with running C2s without a turbo. Nothing wrong with running the C2Ts without a turbo either. If you've got boost plans, go with the C2Ts, as that's the C2 turbo grind designed to work better with bigger turbos.

Don't forget some modest headwork to clean things up. Turbos respond well to increased airflow, so a little headwork goes along way. Likewise with larger TBs and exhaust piping.

the whole thing about the adj cam gears, i was told that there is no clearance so how could you really adj them. i just knew that if you ran mega squirt or other, that was the way to do it. i am running a turbo but hopfully hahn, so i just want to make sure that C2Ts, valve train and the pt lifters were safe to run with out a turbo until its turbo time.

I kinda dont get the first question about the clearance, please elaborate on that...

and as far as the crower turbo 2's you should be good running them NA for the mean while, as Driggs said. Now, I know you said "valve train", but I havent heard one word mentioned about the rockers arms, if you are doing the adjusters, you might as well do the rockers right away, that way you dont have to come back in later down the road... just my .02 cents.

p.s.
