108863, Engine build complete, so far so good! Posted by fresh95, Jun-03-08 03:49 PM
Well, here's the scoop. I just finished building my engine with the following components:
Je 8.8:1 pistons Je pro-seal rings Eagle rods Acl main and rod bearings Melling oil pump Felpro Mls headgasket ARP main and head studs PT lifters and rockers
That's the basics anyway. Head bolts are torqued to 90 ft/lbs, and I did use copper gasket spray on the headgasket. So I put the engine in on Saturday, fired right up first try, idled perfect. Immedeately adjusted the aeromotive to 45 psi, which put my idle afr right at 14.7. I let it run for about 20 minutes, then changed the oil and filter. After that, I took it out and did 20 pulls from 30-65 mph and then compression braked back to 30. I've got almost 200 miles on it so far, with no leaks, no smoke, and no sign of anything wrong. It runs like a champ. I did the full build by myself, and it was my first time, so I'm extremely happy so far.
I also switched from the sfmu to the portfueler, got an underdrive pully, and a wideband during the build.
Now, for a few questions. What I have been doing so far, is just normal stop and go driving, with a little boost here and there (5psi), usually right before I park it. Is this type of heat cycling good for ring seating? Should I be doing something else? I've read so many different opinions that I just chose to do what I felt safe with. I plan on running 15psi daily, occasionally 20. Let me know what you guys think, and I'll get some pics up as soon as I get a chance.

Congrats on a good rebuild man.
For your break in, everyone has different opinions.
I personally drove 50 miles w/ no boost and lots of power braking. Then the next 50 miles were all highway and hard pulls on the highway but with no boost. Then I just beat the poop out of it running 10psi and power breaking too. I have never had any problems with the rings not seating correctly and my compression is awesome across the board still.

I did my first rebuild like six years ago and it was definately rewarding. I am now finishing up the second time around. Just had to wait a year for Howell to get my long block to me. 2.2 stroker finally runnng. Just need to get it on the road. As far as break in. I will prolly go a little longer with no boost. maybe 250 miles and use a similar system as eclipse982nrRST. I think what you have done so far should be just fine. might change the oil again in about 50 miles. Good luck and great job.

Thanks, I just cracked 700 miles today. Still runnin great. I'm boosting 5 psi now, and as soon as hahn gets the tuning software to me, I will slowly increase the boost. I don't have pics yet, but as soon as I do, I will post them.

Congrats. HRC will come through.
And congrats to pearlwhite for having a decent kitted 2G. Not many of those out there.

Well, I have a question for you pro's now, and I need a quick answer. I recieved hahn's software, but all of a sudden, seems like I may have a bad primary injector. When I start the car, I usually need to prime the fuel system a few times, or It will crank forever without starting. Also, if the car sits for a while, my fuel pressure gauge reads 0 psi, and during moderate acceleration, at about 5-10 hg's of vac, the car starts studdering until I ease off or punch it. Whats the deal, possibly a leaky injector??? During boost, my afr's are still pig rich, so I know the portfueler is working. Let me know if you guys can give me a hint so I can start tuning. Thanks in advance, Mike.
