i was taking off my tb to send it to howell for them to bore it when i noticed that once you get past the tb plate the surface is covered with black oily grime. not dripping or anything just caked to the walls all the way down the intake manifold. now i know some oil spray can come up that little hose so i expected to see a little oil, but it is about paper thick everywhere. is this a normal amount, i have already put a breather filter on the valve cover pipe. so is that going to fix it. also i read something on here about tb cleaner. is that what it gets rid of. and should i try it.

I cleaned my TB a week ago also and it was covered with black oili grimed. Can't do much about it, unless you do the EGR block off mod. I just sprayed some carb. cleaner on thier.

Like randy said, have to block off the EGR to stop it. Not hard though...

i could be wrong here.. but

what the grime is should be oil from the crankcase.. it goes into your intake and gets on your throttle plate and TB.. you can clean it off.. but u will doing that everymonth.

get a breather filter.. you attach it to the crankcase tube .. and block off the lil hole in the intake that the tube would go in..

since then my Tb has been very clean..

No, you are right, you do get some oil coming from the crankcase through the breather (often due to blowby). Also, you will get some oil injected straight into your intake manifold by way of the pressure control valve (PCV). However, the black crap that is all over the inside of your intake is mostly from the exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) system. Basically, the system re-circulates combusted gases for emissions purposes.
