107649, Long Tube Header, no longer just a thought

Ok, through a bit of collaboration between myself and quicksilver99 (Mark Peachy), we now have a functional, correctly dimensioned LTH.

The install was actually pretty easy. I did have to take my radiator out to get it to fit in (kinda felt like a honda guy at that point, lol). But once that was out, she fit right in and I had plenty of room to put the radiator back in (more than with the e-bay header).

Here's a comparison pic between the e-bay header and Mark's LTH (don't mind the heat wrap. I was in the process);

Got a little more size and a little bigger pipe. Most importantly, to me, notice the smooth angles instead of the hard e-bay agles. Very important to me.

Mark has said that he can make these according to your specs, so if anyone is interested, feel free to contact him.

Oh BTW, this header helped make 203.8whp NA.

Not just you. What is his method to get those nice curves to the pipes???? I need someone to do custom gradual bends to IC piping.

Very nice work.

He apparently has access to various benders (something about a water bender too). I believe he can do just what you are talking about. He and I have already talked about a cold air design with a velocity stack.

You're just gonna sneak that in at the end and not provide full details WTF Mark

edit nm just saw the other thread.

I'm interested... I like the quality of the workmanship.

Do you know what the difference was using that new header versus, well, anything else? Did you happen to do any dyno comparisons or see a difference at the track?

Not trying to be difficult as you know, just wanted to see if you got some or any trials on it.

I have orders from the wife to tune the car before buying the next mod (logical, have to give her that) but I'd put that header on the short list of things to buy next, and try at the track :)

One of my disappointments of the day. As you know about dyno's, they rarely cooperate, lol. I had an order of testing lined up, but for some reason the thermostat wanted to screw with us. That killed my time so I had to jump to just dynoing the final set-up.

As for the track, I'm ready to run right now :thumbsup

Not being difficult at all. I totally understand because those are my immediate questions to be answered.

Damn it, is she being right this early in the marriage :order ?

But when she's right, she's right.

my guest , based on my experience with several neon dohc with long tube headers, it looks like you have at least around 30 inch of throat
and this should be good for 8-10 WHp on a mildly modified 2.0L engine

Hahaha, you cheat! Good eyes; not quite the number but close enough, lol.

your engine is not a typical reference :)

we did a few dyno run on neons dohc with some cams like crane 12 and 16 homemade head porting, udp. 55mm tb and box intake manifold

that's what we saw, 8 to 10 hp , with lth from howell

my 2 cents here... you would most probably be able to gain another couple ponies outta this type of setup if you utilized a smoother merge collector at the point where all 4 tubes intersect. it looks as if, the way u have it now, would create some form of restriction due to the sharp convergence during higher rpm's. check out "spdexhaust.com"... they have all sorts of collectors that you can check out - i worked there previously. there is power to be gained from a properly designed collector.

Just out of curiousity, what if someone wanted one for a 2.4?

They would contact Mark (Peachy, quicksilver99 and have him make one)

And 2point4, I was waiting for Mark to hop on and comment, but I do concur. Mark and I had a conversation about the collector length etc. and we also had conversations about making this a semi "bolt on" production affair. I'm guessing that's where that collector comes in.

So can this header be used just as any other header?

Also, do we contact him for pricing?

EDIT: whats the inlet size?

I was just asked by my dad "so, what are you going to put on the car next?"

And, I can tell you, I'd like to look into this header some more. Please keep us updated.

Contact Mark Peachy (quicksilver99 on this site). It's in his ballcourt now. I do know that he is also in the process of making a progressive ram style intake that we designed. You are welcome to contact him about specialized bends etc.

ok boys and gals..... here's the rundown:

Those bends where done on a rotary-draw bender because that one is mild steel and is very forgiving, 7 inch centerline radius, and zero distortion. I also have a small mandrel bender ( thats a moody S.O.B.) and can hydro-form light gauge sheet metal to any shape or form. My die sets are limited, I have a few common sizes, but they cost anywhere from $500 to $1800 dollars a set depending on the size, we're expanding as our shop grows but it takes time. I'll keep everybody posted as I put together all the final details of the header and producing it. Just waiting on qoutes for lazer-cutting. As far as bending tube I only have common sizes used for headers and manifolds as thats generally our specialty, I/C piping is comming when we can afford the setup. The collector is made in house, and we have many different designs, once I have an idea of what to use for a flex section I'll prob revise that one to a longer slope, but there still needs to be complete seperation of the exhaust pulses.

I'll keep everybody up to date on the progress and try to answer any more questions as they come up. But I also ask for a little patience when waiting for responses, I work a full time job at 55+ hours a week to keep my fab shop going till its self supporting and I don't get online as much as I used to. But I will answer everything I can.

another idea is to sand bend those tubes

That header looks really nice, one question is how much lower is it than the crossmember right there? Some guys are low as shit, that looks like it would drag hard on speedbumps and put a beating on the head if it hit. It wouldnt clear on my car for daily driving, no way...

Good point. It's not as bad as it looks in the pic, but she is low. With Tien springs (1.3" to 1.5" lower), I have 5" of clearance.

107836, RE: Long Tube Header, no longer just a thought
Posted by freelancefool, Feb-25-08 01:03 PM
How would the clearance be with a 2" drop? I have about 4" of clearance under the front bumper.

I have 3" of clearance at my downpipe...it sucks sometimes

the lower pair of runners only sits about 1.5 inchs lower than the lowest point of the oil pan. I'll try to get some pics up of it on a motor by fri night.

Hi there,

I'm interested in one header like that. Who I have to talk with so he can make me one like that but in a different way, like a 4-2-1 because I heard it's the best for the street. It's just my thought, if I'm wrong, well, show the correct way. Thanks for the help.

Contact quicksilver99 and give him your parameters. He has been able to help me on various designs.
