Dropped a newly rebuilt engine into a 95 I bought from one of our own. It took about 3 starts, but then she fired up and purred like a kitten. No engine knock - the DSM gods were kind to me. Unfortunately, I have a coolant leak on the water pump that came with the engine. I'm sure it's a bad pump, as the leak is not between the pump and the block where the gasket is; rather, it's coming from the outside where the timing belt sprocket is. Damn.

Also, when I let go of the clutch pedal at idle, I get a clanking sound. Press the clutch back in, and it goes away. I've torqued all bolts on the flexplate down to the recommended specs, with blue loctite. I think I've read before that this is a throwout bearing issue of some sort, but I have to read up more on this. I hope it is self correcting, b/c I do not want to take the engine out again.

AND I still have to replace the drivers side axle. And find a vacuum leak. And find a short. This has been a huge project, so many wiring issues, repainting and fixing up the interior, etc etc... it's taken me a lot longer than I expected, but I've learned a bunch. I just want it to be over, ha

Sounds about like the project i got myself and a buddy of mine into. Traded a civic for a 95 ESi and it sounds almost identical to your project. However, the coolant leak on mine was that hose that runs right in front of the head just above the ex. mani the rubber hose was cracked. Caught it red handed when it was so cold out, (some water being in there) ... a coolant "sicle" hanging. lol good find!

All the hard work, busted knuckles, tempers, etc.. put into it will be all worth it in the end!

Throw out bearing.

Did your clutch set up have that little spacer between the crank and the flexplate?

I got mine to start on the first try :)
after that I still needed to replace the turbo, radiator, 2 engine mounts, And some crap im forgetting.

After 3 months all I need is 2 gaskets and a few hours of free time. To hang the new turbo and get my safc working.

i dropped a 95 eclipse engine in my 97 talon with a 96 ecu (haha sounds like a bad combo right?) and it fired up 1st try, no nocking, no nothin'. the DSM gods were good to me 2. btw ur car looks sick as hell man. mega props.
