Is it possible to shave or remove the intake runners (Hope I said it right :)) that run from the intake Manifold and make it so it mounts either closer or completly flush with the engine to reduce the power lost to the last two cylinders.

In my mind it would be a lot closer to a ITB set up (No Cigar) but at least it would minmize the power loss to a much better degree than just plain ol porting the intake manifold, If I find one in the junk yard I may do this mod.

What do you guys think if I did this mod and tapered each one open bigger as I went to the back cylinder while leaving the one closest to the front stock size?

If I had my way I'd put an ITB set up on her but that might make the smog man mad :)

What evidence do you have that the #1 cylinder gets less air than any other?

Did a plug change and starting form l to r the last one was clean as then the next was slightly dirty the the 3rd was dirty then the closest to the tb was dirtyest.
Not that it was strange for them to be that way I was using those patterns of soot as a gadge to what cylinder was doing it's job the most and the which was doing it's job the least

I'd blame that on your EGR before I'd say there was that much of an imbalance in the airflow of the intake manifold.

And besides, if you shortened the runners on a mostly stock car without a turbocharger, that car would have so little low end power, you'd lose to golf carts.
