Just wanted to compare the price with everyone else to see if I'm getting a deal or getting screwed lol. He told me for $310 he would clean and bore the block .20 over, resurface the head and do the valve work. He referred me to another guy for the port/polish so I'll give that guy a call tomorrow sometime.

That sounds pretty good as compred to what I paid:

Clean & Prep Block: $65.00
Bore & Hone Cylinders: $110.00
Resurface Head: $40.00
Basic Valve Job(this also included assembly): $245.00

I know others have said it, so i'll repeat it, "You get what you pay for". Your price sounds good, however, the more important thing is of what quality is the work? I remember reading on here somewhere that something to look for in a machine shop is cleanliness. Just some things to be aware of.

yeah that sounds good but it will mostly depend on what he calls "valve work"
if he just laps the valves then you got hosed, if he actually does at least a 3-angle and reassembles then your good

That sounds like a good deal to me. You may want to ask what type of valve job he was doing. I worked at a machine shop that only rebuilt the engines to oem specs, no performance enhancing things like port & polish or 3 and 5 angle valve jobs. That price might be just for a basic valve job including disassembly, cleaning, resurfacing the head, checking valves, pressure testing, reseating the valves,etc. More than likely your head will get resurfaced since it's aluminum and tends to warp easier. This is what I was charged for just a basic valve job and I worked there and I did all the headwork:

-Disassemble & degrease, check guides & surface & grind valves:$80
-Pressure test head:$40
-Surface head:$40
-Adjust valves on bench:$32

Tax and all it cost around $225, and that also included the valve seals, a valve guide, and 2 new expansion plugs.

Last time I did this on a 2.0L i paid $250 for the block machine work with no assembly. That includes clean, overbore, decking, and balancing the rotating assembly.
