107071, 30+ more miles per tank. Posted by Yo, Dec-06-07 11:00 AM
I've got a 97 gs turbo'd with portfueler and all of that good stuff and I get 230 miles per tank. To make a long story short, I took off my external fuel pump and put a ford fuel filter in its place (33595 WIX part number). I replaced my internal fuel pump with a walbro 255lph with the aid of one of the write-ups on this site. Now I get 260-270 mile in town.

Is that normal mileage for a turboed n/t? Because I get like 450-500 miles to a tank in my n/t.

500?? on how many gal? at 14 that's like 36 mpg... not sayin that's impossible, but it'd have to be all hwy, which most of us don't normally do. If I lead foot it i'll get around 320, baby it about 380 or so, best so far.

Me too, unless i'm redlining or doing some heavy downshifting. Then maybe i get around 320ish.
My girlfriend hates the fact we can drive from where i live to charlotte, tool around in charlotte, drive to other people's houses and drive back to where we live in south carolina without my gas needle budging. haha.

This is the one place where I would recomend the safc. If you got one kickin' around, you can save some gas with it. I ran the 10.9 comp (with Crower 2's, 60mm tb P + P head etc.) over 500 on a tank (it was just shy of 40 mpg). Now about 100 of that was city, the rest was highway.

well i get like 27 mpg like a combonation with highway and city.. not bad.
But before with my 98 RS i got like 32 mpg combo of city and highway..
uh not doing to bad with a turbo? lol how do you guys get that much with a turbo

If I am just going on the highway and take it easy, I can get 37 mpg. The last time I came back from the shootout, I think I remember getting 35 mpg, that was all highway, taking it relatively easy, windows up, AC on, and a passenger (but my wife only weighs 103lbs so that's not too much extra weight)

FYI- Our gas tanks hold 17 gallons(16.9). I'm n/a with cai, and full exhaust and 238,000 miles. I average 30-32 between city and highway. I know on Road trips I can get over 500 miles to one tank. I love it.

that's something that's always bugged me - my low fuel light comes on with around 13.5 gallons down, and i never run it below that. i've seen 100 times that it's a 17 gal tank though... does it have a 3 gal "reserve" or so? for reference a per tank reading doesn't read much, try to divide it out and give mpg's for reference.

I don't race my car UNTIL I see the light just start to flicker. I have gone maybe 10 passes with the light on. No stuttering or signs that I am out of gas (just once at NED in the staging lanes. They actually have a spot with a little hill. Can't get stuck sitting there). Hell, when the light comes on while I'm driving around, I give myself another 50+ miles before I must fill up, lol. I've yet to run out of gas.
I imagine there is a bit of reserve.

Rock on, i've just never been in the mood to do the test carrying a 2-gal jug of fuel, drive till you run out, then put in the 2 gal and then top it off at a gas station. On my other vehicles I only have around 20 miles to go when the lights on

I get about 31-32 city and hwy here in San Diego...highway is basically city cuz of all the damn traffic. When I do fill up, I use just about 12 gallons.

I know this post is a little old but I just saw it now. When I had my 98 avenger 4cyl, 5spd, with a aem v2 intake, bosal header and catback, afx 30% udp, and a fidanza aluminum flywheel with a new LuK clutch. I used to drive on the turnpike from herhsey to philly every day and got 38.5mpg in the avenger doing over 90-100 the whole way down there. I was getting right about 500 miles a tank too.
