Lately the oil dummy light has either been illuminating or flickering whenever the car warms up and idles anywhere under 1k rpms. Sometimes it doesn't do it, but it seems to be happened more consistently now. I don't have an oil pressure gauge(yet) so I can't tell the exact drop... So what I'd like to know is what are possible causes of this. The car has always idled around 7-900 rpms, so a low idle problem is pretty much ruled out. I just got an oil change, so, that partially rules out the chance the filter is obstructed in any way. So.. which is failing, the sensor or the oil pump :-(

if you can give me an idea of the symptoms of both of those scenarios, I'd appreciate it. sorry if i rambled i'm all hopped up on monster.

Either bad sensor or weak oil pump or even worn bearings. The black car i picked up, you saw it. That one had a bad oil pump that was doing the same thing.

If you get into a jam with that motor George....let me know. I do have the stock motor from the silver car and you and i could work out a swap deal.

Personally I would change out the sensor and install an oil pressure gauge and go from there. there are a few oil pressure gauges for sale in the FS section for pretty cheap.

I would go with Terry's idea first. From your description of how it has slowly gotten a little worse, I'd be concerned about worn bearings.

With the next paycheck I'll get a gauge and see exactly whats happening. Then we'll go from there. May have some extra money soon for a swap if it really comes down to that, will have to check out the extent of the damage. I know there is a nasty little oil leak on the back of the block. Leaking about a quart every month at least now. I have to go out and see how many miles are on it (I have the mileage difference written down from when I did the trans swap and need to see exactly how many miles are on the car right now. Probably around 120k)

If the bearings are suspected to be worn, and you are not having any other symptoms than low oil pressure, you could get away with just throwing a high volume oil pump on it, and make sure you're keeping up with the oil changes (which is probably what caused the wear).

Wait, if you have a bad leak on the back of the block, What did you use for fittings for your turbo kit and you may have a broken sensor.

Edit, you have a turbo yet...what was I thinking. Sensor bad could be the issue though.
