107011, ebay udp?

Hello dudes, im new to this website. but i been doing my research.. im planning on boosting my 97 rs. but i want to help my car breathe a little better until i get $$ to boost her up. im thinking about getting and udp but i dont want to spend too much money on it, are ebay udp any good/reliable?, i would not mind buying an af/x but if it not going to make much diff i rather go with the cheap one. also, i just had my timing belt done. i know it would have been easier to get everything done at once but . if i get my udp install, do i need to redo the timing again?, labor aint cheap around here. any suggestions welcome, thanks for your help.

Johnny

I don't know much about the ebay UDP, but I would guess they would be fine... :/. As for install, you shouldn't have to re-time your engine, since you aren't really messing with any timing components because they are all on the inside of your cover and you will be working on the outside. It's just like changing your harmonic dampener, no re-time is necessary. If you get it, good luck and let us all know how it well/not so well it works :).

Before Deej gets on here and says something wiseass, the UDP will not help you in breathing.

As for the E-bay UDP, I would definitely stay away from it. Could be OK, but it could also throw belts, make for squeaky belts and, in the extreme, could generate imbalance in your engine.

The AF/X, Modern Performance or even the OBX are better choices.

That's just how howell automotive is. I ordered a crap load of stuff from them when I did my rebuild and it took over a month for it to arrive, so don't worry about it.

I would disagree a little bit with this, why would it throw belts?? Anyone whoever took a class on using a machine to make a part, in engineering would know that everything is cut very precise, it can't cut it out of balance...If that is what you are implying. Im sure There is very very little difference in these part you say are so good compared to some ebay UDP's. I dont know alot about our 2GNT's yet, but when I built a 99 Neon I used a AFX UDP and now on my 95 talon I used a ebay UDP and they are virtually identical, I have no complain with either. Funny my shaft seal goes out and this subject comes up, I spoke to a very good shop here in Kalifornia and he said that Unorthodox is your best bet and recomends against ebay because he has seen problems from the ebay cheepos like warping and vibration and he said something about a rubber piece that either may or may not be included and well since my shaft seal may need to be replace the squeel is loud and getting louder I have no choice and while he's doing it anyway I'm going to get the whole Unorthodox set installed 4 birds one stone. :)

70 bucks per hr plus my Udp set.

I hope that's all that's wrong because if it's worse the GM man's gonna see me drag this B***h across the property line to hell with it I'll just thown in the towel on this one, God I hate Banks! :(

hello, just a follow-up, i finally installed my af/x udp. quicker revs, i didnt feel too much power gain, just a bit more pep but i did notice it helps car runs smooth. you see more diff with A/C on. it wasnt too bad to install, basic tools AND gear puller or you would not be able to take it out. So far i got the basics: 2.5" catback/udp/headers/short ram/P&P Intake/plugs/wires and eventhough it aint the fastest car on the block, its got some pep. I wonder how much whp i got. Next mod, bored TB?. or clutch. idk.,, Ultimate goal = boost. comments appreciated. just my .02

Ok I know you have tested the mods ya have so what kind of cars (Approx Yr.) can ya hang with now or pull away from now?

What do you mean you see a difference with the AC on?

And do you have a stick or an auto?

Funny I was just looking at the web for my new pullie and this info tagged my E box. :)

when you have the AC on and are running a UDP there isnt as much loss of power as there is with the stock one. (you notice this more when trying to accelerate with the AC on)

This statement was for you.

In other words no real changes per se right?
