Hi everyone I was wondering how much it would cost me to get new pistons, rods, a resurface, and bore .20
I have a spare block and I want to rebuild it so I was just wondering how much it would run me to get this done.

It depends on a lot of things. Machine shop pricing can vary greatly and parts pricing can also vary greatly depending on stock parts vs. forged parts etc. Also it will depend if you're doing any of the work yourself. You've got to be more specific. Before you go buying parts though, search through the forums and read till your eyes bleed so you can make the most educated decision for yourself (ask for a list and every reply you get will be different)

BTW welcome to the forums, we hope you stick around to learn about your car and modify it to suit your needs or at least learn to do some of your own work on it.

Yeah Ive been on here for a little bit now I just havent made any posts because I have been reading my eyes out I wear contacts to so by the time I'm done reading I cant even blink my eyes without them sticking to my eyelids seriously but back on topic

I plan on getting eagle rods and not so sure on pistons yet but they will be forged and I'm going to install the motor back into the car but I will not be doing the internal work because I'm not that familar with the inside and I dont have the proper tools so I basically just want the shop to put the block together and I will drop the motor back into the car thanks for the welcome though and dont worry I wont be going anywhere I love my car.

Good to hear, I didn't notice your registration date before, it appears you have been reading a bit. Props to you.

Popular piston choices are wiseco and je. I forget prices though :(

Now I'll side step and let others who have gone through this before give their input for cost of assembly.

Knowing your limitations is a good thing, however, read this before you go any further(if you haven't already):

I payed around $850 shipped for my Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons with Eagle Rods (w/ ARP rod bolts), $35 for ACL rod and main bearings, $115 or so for ARP head studs, and $200 for a Felpro full engine gasket kit (top and bottom), $100 for a whole new timing kit, including a new performance belt.

I payed $755 for my engine to get torn down, hot tanked painted, new valve stem seals, a nice hone job on the block (already bored to .020" over), laser balance the crank, completely assemble the engine to proper torque specs. I also spent $100 to have the engine professionally timed.

This is for a nicely built block with a bone stock head from a guy that normally build race engines. ( purchased as a Jasper rebuild everything was already .020" over including cams).


Just for the math majors out there that is $2155 for a nice long block that is ready to drop in.

About the same, I think in parts it was around $1300, JE 8:8 pistons, total seal rings, eagle rods, ACL Main bearings ('95, stupid notches), ARP head studs (don't have to worry about short block thread), new oil pump, Fel-Pro gasket set. I did the work myself, so unsure of labor - but it'll depend on your area anyway.

Whats the difference between a long block and short block ??

A short block is just the "bottom half" of the engine; i.e. block, crank, pistons, rods, etc. Whereas a long block includes the cylinder head, etc. just bolt on your manifolds and sensors, drop in and go.

The prices and parts listed above are right on.

As far as the gasket kits you'll need you should look up Bob Kise. He used to work at a Dodge dealership and gave the website discounts. He left the dealership but last I heard they were still honoring our discount. I got a nice deal on a top end gasket kit just this last spring.
