i am really getting sick of my car. i put all this money in it and will not start. i got a new head, 8:1 je and eagle rods, block bored out. the whole engine is like new.. it WILL NOT START :wallbash . i took it to a shop and they put the new head on cuz other one was bad. but when they put it on it was only getting comp in two of the cylinders, they say its goes up slowly. the other two dont have any. they told me it could be the lifters, its not lifting the valves, could that be true?... :scratch can the lifters be the problem?

the first build the oil pick up tube was cracked so the engine ran dry. i didnt think about the lifters going bad... i dont want to sell my car, im just getting so sick of it

While you may have screwed up lifters (though I can't see how you would get zero comp numbers out of it), it is much more likely that you timing is off. Who did it? Guessing that's it's 180 degrees off on one cam.

thats what i was thinking, a shop did it for me. they may have
messed up. that would be the main thing, that one of the cams are 180. i didnt ask them what cylinders were getting little com. but thats possible, two are getting little comp and others are not cuz of that, right.
to others reading this that happend to them. did you guys get little comp when just one cam is 180. i just want to make sure cuz when i go there they will look at me like im stupied. i'm telling a person that works on cars for a living this.

Easiest way to check is to look at the cam gears. if the text "2.0L FRONT" is facing the same way on both gears, one is 180* off.

dont blame the car blame the jackass that built it wrong you paid this shop good money for a running car remember that. raise hell be loud get the car fixed and enjoy it.

Im on the other end of the spectrum I have less than 500 in service work I got my 96 in 98. I love my car.

All shops seem to screw up the timing on our motors. I have seen numerous posts now through the years I have been here that shops install the belt 180* out. Even my sisters car, a 96 gs like 4 years ago, had the belt changed and a new head put on, they said she had bad rings because she had no comp in 2 cyl's, we had it towed to our house and found out the timing WAS INDEED 180* out.

thanks guys for all the help. I indeed rasied hell in there. today they told me that they couldnt find out what was wrong with it and was going to give me my car back and be on my way. I said "HELL NO MOTHERFUCKER YOU FIX IT OR GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK" i did say a lot more but you get the point.

i told them it might be 180 and they had no clue what that was. just before i was going to go there to raise more hell then i did on the phone (i had to bring a friend to hold me back, just in case) they called me and tolld me that it was running. it was the lifters, they wernt prims i guess.
i would have done this myself but i had no time, so i payed someone to do it. ill never do that again.
but the best thing for me is MY CAR IS FINALLY RUNNING!!!!!

x3. the moron didnt know what you meant by 180* out, went and told the other moron, he figured it out, fixed the timing and said it was the lifters? now the true test...did they replace the lifters? take your valve cover off and check!!!
