I have a neighbor out by my parent's house in BFE and they used to mod the hell outta mustangs, trucks, etc. The son in that family bored/ported/polished everything u can imagine on his 64 1/2 mustang fastback. (UGLEEEEEE car, primer, rusted out, etc but had a supermodded- 351 in it) I'm wondering if I could just pop by his house and ask him to bore out my TB for me to 55mm. Think he could measure it and do it by hand in his garage? He did everything himself with his dad on all his cars and they have tools with a full shop. *evil grins

I wouldn't do it.. unless you've seen the work yourself.. from what I can tell.. boring a throttle body right is no easy task.. seening as the companies that do it professional have a hard time getting it right.

You need to do it on a stationary hone set to 55mm not a hand job. And like vegas said you need a new throttle plate to match (one that wont fall off from the two bolts holding it on). Dont bother.

He actually has a boring machine? If he does you could take it apart and bored it completely 52mm all the way through (basically removing the venturi(sp?) lip) and still reuse the existing throttle plate. You could also go the route of just porting away the venturi(sp?) lip. You probably won't gain too much just maybe a little throttle response but you do run the risk of messing it up. If he does have stuff to do porting you should probably just go ahead and gasket match the opening on the intake manifold to the TB.

you can do it by hand i've seen iot done with a tb actually installed on the car they just shoved a rag in the intake mani to block the filings. you do need a 55mm butterfly to fit in the new hole. i dunno whats up with venturi's i've never looked in the other end of my tb as i've never gotten it off . it is possible but usually easier to buy one from someone like howell.

They may have made it bigger but coldn't have possibly made a uniform circle by hand which is importnant to keep the throttle plate from leaking and having idling problems.

Sounds like what you saw was the intake manifold opened up for a bored TB which doesn't have to be as precise (gasket sealed). Otherwise its pretty hard to stuff rags into the intake manifold with the TB still on the car :-) .
