...blown engine :(


Haven't been on in a while, but man, my car was ticking for a while and leaking oil (1 quart every 3 days or less depending on mileage per day). Anyhow I checked every day and filled as necessary, but the ticking remained. On my last day of work, i'm driving home and boom! on the freeway. Tow the car home, pissed. Don't even bother looking at it for 2 months since I know what it was anyway.

Take the engine out this weekend, drop the oil pan, and a shattered #2 eagle rod, and piston is just scuffed up from the rod.

Anyhow, what could that ticking have been to cause this? Guess I gotta rebuild again, but it will be a while since i'm low on funds. Is there anything I should do the motor (while it's out) to keep it maintained while I save up to fix it?

Haven't separated the head from the block. Looking at that rod just bummed me out as it reiterated what I already had in mind, and I'm done working on it for today.

Ticking is usually lifters.

Could have also been a bad injector and detonated the shit out of that cylinder ...?

Well, I don't know if it was detonation. I didn't hear anything other than the ticking. The ticking was constant tho and would tick faster as the rpms went up. The ticking started from when i put in the key to when i turned it off.


So for one cylinder to get eff'd up like that. I don't know. Maybe the injector failed, don't really know.

Will I need to replace all the internals again or just buy one rod/piston? I ask this since I assume the cylinder wall may have received some damage? therefore requiring boring?

I don't think I want to rebuild all over again. I was never able to get rid of my massive oil leak, so I think I will take the motor to a machine shop and have them go at it. Anyone have recommendations here in SoCAl that does good solid rebuilds?

I'll probably end up doing myself again, but if I can get a good price, I'd rather not put in the time. Thanks in advance.

Could have been a bad injector, a failed lifter, or bad bearing in the bottom end. You should check out the other parts, like your rings, rod bearings, etc. and go from there. If the cyl wall is messed up, you could possibly have it machined.
