106292, my Crower cams are defective!!
Posted by kevox, Sep-23-07 10:48 PM
So the Chrysler dealer FINALLY found the problem ($500 later...) concerning why my car won't start after a lengthy engine rebuild - the stage 2 Crower cams' timing lines are all off! We know this because the dealership compared my stock cams to the ones that are now installed and could see the differences... So now I gotta replace them with some that actually line up....or something like that anyways.

ANyone else ever have this problem?
I bought the cams for the 420a - which si what I drive, 1997 Talon non-turbo...Based on the one email my dad sent to Crower, they are aware of this occasional problem....any thoughts on this?

Cam Gears you mean, not cams.

Yes, we all know this already. Line up the stock gear on the Crower gear, and make a mark where the stock etching is and then re-time it and you will be fine.

I know this is old but I ran into a similar problem. Crower actually sent me neon stage 2's instead of eclipse and the intake and exhaust are flipped and even when timed perfect it would backfire. just food for thought

That also is a known problem, but you can do that even with stock cams. Neon cams will physically fit, but will not work.

Backfires are cool.

You know, instead of going out on a limb and asking 2gnt, i would have talked to the bc people personally to source the problem. That's just me though. You gave your money to them, shouldn't you be bitching to them?

I had gotten neon cams once instead of eclipse cams (didn't double check the part number) and the car basically tried to run the air flow backwards. I got an exhaust pulse out the intake, at least that is what is seemed like was happening to me.

Really? Good idea! I've done that over and over again and they have yet to reply to any of my (formal, not abusive) emails so my parents helped me build a formal, informative LETTER to them which we mailed about 2-3 weeks ago now. In this letter we had copies of reciepts proving that their mistake cost me over $1,100 to fix. Hopefully they will do something...
